Bio

When I formed Robert Casey Blues Party I called upon some great friends who also happened to be great musicians. These are people I’ve played music with in several bands such as the Fabulous Silhouettes, the Epics, the Frank James Band and the Belltown Saints. We have become lifelong friends. I like to refer to Robert Casey Blues Party as my first band and my last band. It’s my first band in the sense that, for the first time, I’ve used my name in the band’s name. I say this is my last band as in “This is a great band, I’ll never want another.”

Between Chris Glenn, Sky Davenport, J.A. Vail, Ruth Gabriel and myself, there have been countless performances and parties. That’s why I like to say that the band’s motto is “We Love the Blues and We Love to Party.” That’s where the Blues Party idea came from.

We like to play a broad spectrum of Blues music; from Down-home to Downtown, Earthy to Spacey, Kick-ass to Kickback. Lead vocals are traded between Ruth, Sky and myself. It’s a very fortunate band that can boast three singers, but we like to add another dimension to our shows---rock instrumentals. We regularly seque from Ray Charles to Link Wray to Muddy Waters. People really go for this variety, just as we enjoy playing within different genres.

When events warrant a special tribute set, we are on top of it. Upon news of the death of Hank Ballard, we quickly put together a mini-set of his hits; likewise, on the 25th anniversary of Elvis’ death.

Requests are welcome. At one gig a fan requested “Wipe Out”, a surf classic. Thanks to Sky’s expertise in a variety of musical styles, we whipped through “Wipe Out” and threw in “Walk Don’t Run” and Fleetwood Mac’s “Albatross.”

The point is, Robert Casey Blues Party is proficient in multiple musical genres and we have fun doing what we do. Our pleasure in playing music together is obvious on stage. We are so comfortable with the music we play, that our shows have a relaxed feel. We’ve done “high energy” in or youth---this is “medium energy” time for us.

Production of our first CD, “The North Turn”, on Andrew Will Records, has completed. This is a collection of Blues, Vintage R&B, Original Rockin’ Blues and more. We’ve put our versatility on display for all to hear.
