There is a distinguished lineage of post-bop pianists who collaorated with the legendary Miles Davis: Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, and Joe Zawinul. Add to that list of superb artists, Robert Irving III, who served as Miles' last pianist/keyboardist and music director.

Biography

Irving's music and sound served as the impetus for Miles Davis' decision to resume a largely dormant career beginning with Davis' 1981 comeback album: "The Man With the Horn" (title track composed by Irving). Later Irving produced Davis' 1984 Down beat award winning album, "Decoy" and in 1985, "You're Under Arrest" which included the Grammy Award nominated, "Human Nature". Robert Irving III was also the composer of the music score for the 1987 feature film "Street Smart", which earned Morgan Freeman his first Academy Award Nomination. Throughout the 1990's till present, Irving toured and recorded with trumpeter, Wallace Roney, David Murray, Kirk Whalum, Grover Washington Jr., and many jazz greats. Irving returns with his remarkable new recording, "New Momentum" a critically acclaimed premier CD. As the title implies, "New Momentum" documents Irving's forward looking jazz sensibility.
