Robert L. Bohannon, Jr.

Instrumental Gospel has been around for as long as anyone of us can remember. Instrumental Gospel Jazz is something of a twist, not widely accepted in Christian venues because jazz is still know as the worlds music. These musicians are filled with Holy Ghost Power Lovin Jesus, Lovin Jazz

Gospel Jazz is Jazz that has strong Gospel overtones. Robert L. (Bo) Bohannon, Jr. has been playing saxophone since he was 14 years old. He attended Virginia Union University and was a Music Education Major. He studied saxophone under Al Waters a long time saxophonist with the Ray Charles Orchestra. I was influenced by many other musicians including Charlie Parker and John Coltrane, but his main influence came from the James Brown Band the JB’s and especially Maceo Parker. I lived in Augusta Georgia at a time when James Brown was hot (1970-1972) and got a good dose of JB. I use to go and here the JB’s every weekend at the Bell Auditorium. At Virginia Union I sang in the Concert Choir under the direction of Dr. Odell Hobbs for three years. This experience would have a lasting affect. Just as gospel and choral music had an affect on me I also listened to other artist such as James Taylor, Ray Charles, and even Elvis. I love bands that have horns, Chicago, Cold Blood, Earth Wind and Fire. I really like simple music not too complicated and lyrics that say a lot without a lot of words. I have a deep appreciation for all music types and the musicians who play perform the music. After many years of up and downs trials and tribulations you have a musician that plays saxophone but enjoys singing just as much. I love jazz, country, pop, funk, R&B, and classical and you can hear all these elements in my music. Precious is Amazing is a must have in your music collection.

Precious is Amazing has been released in the Richmond Virginia area and plays every Sunday on 105.7 as background music.
