Biography

Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Roberto moved to Montreal in 1994 to pursue his studies in Jazz performance and composition at Concordia University. After playing with many diverse artists, he created the Roberto López Project in the Fall 2005 and the Afro-Colombian Jazz Orchestra in 2011. For the past 7 years, Roberto has performed at many festivals throughout Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick and Mexico. With 3 albums under his belt, he has been nominated at the JUNO awards, the Canadian Folk Music Awards, the GAMIQ (Quebec Indie Awards), SOBA awards, and he received the prestigious Artiste Révélation Radio-Canada Musique award in 2010-2011. Roberto is also a prolific composer for film and theatre. He recently received a nomination for the MECCA awards for his work on the theatre piece Traffik Femme.
