Bio
Robert ToTeras was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. By the time he was four years old he was studying classical piano. During high school, Robert attended the Julliard prepretory program and was allowed to attend Temple University in Philadelphia through a special program.
For college he attended Columbia University and the prestigious Manhattan School of Music where he majored in classical composition. Unfortunately, after a freshman year concert performance of his piece “Bad Wives, to hear their exciting erotic tales of mischief, call 970-WIFE”, Robert was gently asked by the administration to leave the Manhattan School of Music because the style of music he was pursuing did not fit in with the required curriculum. This still remains a point of pride for Robert.
After his college “experience” Robert lived in New York and played guitar for the metal band ‘Circus Boy’. Soon after, Robert moved to Greece (you read it right) where he earned a living by playing acoustic guitar and singing.
After returning to the States, Robert released the acoustic album of songs written while living in Crete titled ‘Five Bucks.’ Robert traveled around the country in support of the record, selling CDs at concerts. Robert sold over ten-thousand copies of the CD hand to hand without the benefit of a record contract, radio airplay or even his own website.
Recently Robert wrote and directed the short film "Sweettooth" which was named as an official selection by the Philadelphia Film Festival. It will be screened on April 16, 2005.
Currently Robert lives in Los Angeles where he writes music for film as well as performs. In January, Robert was selected by the Slamdance Film Festival to create a film score for the festival’s “On-The-Fly” film program. Selected filmmakers, editors and composers were asked to create a short film on-site in Park City, Utah over a 72 hour period.
Robert's new singer-songwriter album (which was recorded in Philadelphia) will be coming out in September 2005.
