Robin And The Giant

Robin And The Giant

BandFolkChildren's Music

Robin And The Giant is a male/female children's and folk duo. We perform a mix of original and popular music. Our original songs are from our children's CDs and from Larry Whitler's solo CDs. The popular songs we do live come from the 1940s thru today and do not appear on any of our CDs.

Biography

We began playing in 1988 as a children's duo. Prior to that Larry toured as a soloist in the college market. We perform festivals, resorts, small venues, coffeehouses, etc. and host a morning radio show in Ocala, Florida. Pop, rock, and country music from the late 60s thru today are our influences.

When The Rain Falls

Written By: Robin MacBlane and Larry Whitler

When the rain falls
I never mind
For it's alright with me
If it rains or it shines

I never mind
Though I love when the sun shines
The rain and the sun
Never change our fun time

Mm, Mm, Mm, Mm
Mm, Mm, Mm, Mm

In the night
When the rain hits my window
I hear the song
That is heard when the wind blows

Poor pretty birds
Tell me where do you hide
When I'm safe in my home
And it's raining outside

Mm, Mm, Mm, Mm
Mm, Mm, Mm, Mm

In the night
When the rain hits my window
I hear the song
That is heard when the wind blows

Poor pretty birds
Tell me where do you hide
When I'm safe in my home
And it's raining outside

Mm, Mm, Mm, Mm
Mm, Mm, Mm, Mm

When the rain falls
I never mind
For it's alright with me
If it rains or it shines

I never mind
Though I love when the sun shines
The rain and the sun
Never change our fun time

Mm, Mm, Mm, Mm
Mm, Mm, Mm, Mm

In the night
When the rain hits my window
I hear the song
That is heard when the wind blows

Poor pretty birds
Tell me where do you hide
When I'm safe in my home
And it's raining outside

Mm, Mm, Mm, Mm
Mm, Mm, Mm, Mm

I never mind
Though I love when the sun shines
The rain and the sun
Never change our fun time

Mm, Mm, Mm, Mm
Mm, Mm, Mm, Mm
Mm, Mm, Mm, Mm

Bitten By The Birds And Bees

Written By: Robin MacBlane and Larry Whitler

Jimmy has a crush on Susan in Math
He sent her a note
But she didn't write back
Susan had read what Jimmy had to say
She called him a "Nerd"
And threw it away

Jimmy calls Susan every afternoon
"Can't talk now, I've got to clean my room"
What Jimmy doesn't know
And what Susan doesn't see
Is they've both been bitten
By the Birds and Bees

Susan went down to the lake for a swim
Saw Jimmy there and said "HI" to him
Jimmy moved his wet hair out of his eyes
"Susan", he said, "What a nice surprise!"
"It's awfully hot, would you like a drink?"
"Sure, but what would the Missus think?"

Back when Susan said "No"
That's when Jimmy went free
To find another girl bitten
By the Birds and Bees

It's nothing new
It may have even happened to you
When the Birds and Bees start biting
There's nothing anyone can do

Jimmy went bald and Susan turned gray
He met her on the street after his wife passed away
Susan took his hand almost cautiously
And said "Old Friend, have lunch with me"

What Jimmy now knows
And what Susan would agree
Is they've always been bitten
By The Birds and Bees

It's nothing new
It may have even happened to you
When the Birds and Bees start biting
There's nothing anyone can do

Jimmy has a crush on Susan in Math
He sent her a note
But she didn't write back
Susan had read what Jimmy had to say
She called him a "Nerd"
And threw it away

Jimmy calls Susan every afternoon
"Can't talk now, I've got to clean my room"
What Jimmy doesn't know
And what Susan doesn't see
Is they've both been bitten
By the Birds and Bees

In The Caribbean

Written By: Larry Whitler

If you go sailing
In the Caribbean
Be sure to see Jamaica
She is so beautiful
She will keep your tummy full

She has bananas
So many bananas
And she has coffee, coconuts,
And citrus fruits
Jamaica she will be good to you

So if you get the chance
To see the land where the sea meets the sand
You'll fall in love in Jamaica
Anyone can
In the Caribbean

In Port Maria
Pretty Port Maria
You can take a break
To swim the aqua blue
The sun will look good on you

And in the moonlight
The tropical moonlight
You can sail across
Into Montego Bay
There they work
And they sure can play

So if you get the chance
To see the land where the sea meets the sand
You'll fall in love in Jamaica
Anyone can
In the Caribbean

Stay In School

Written By: Larry Whitler

Maybe it's just a mystery,
Maybe it takes a famous name from history
To open doors for you.
Maybe you need a wealthy Dad,
A little pull that most of us will never have.
Or, maybe none of this is true.

See, I don't think it's a mystery at all.
And counting on your stars is just for fools.
The secret to tomorrow is no secret at all
And the only magic words are "stay in school."

Maybe you're not an architect,
But, whatever you're not, you're just not yet,
For I can see a future bright as day.
And maybe you'll ride in limousines,
A movie star on the silver screen,
It's up to you,
And I know how to pave the way.

See, I don't think it's a mystery at all.
And counting on your stars is just for fools.
The secret to tomorrow is no secret at all
And the only magic words are "stay in school."

I happen to know
That every one is a gifted child.
I happen to know
That every single one of these children
Deserves to smile.

Yeah, and maybe the road is rough at times,
But every struggle leaves behind a little clue,
A little bright and clearer view.
So dream of the life you long to live,
Dream of the love your works will give to everyone,
And all the joy sent back to you.

See, I don't think it's a mystery at all.
And counting on your stars is just for fools.
The secret to tomorrow is no secret at all
And the only magic words are "stay in school."

Doggy Dog World

Written By: Larry Whitler

Stay with me play with me
Maryanne
I’ll fetch you a bone
From the garbage can
Of a deli on Madison Avenue
Just for you
Ah-ooo ---

Some run in circles
Chasing tails
Others would just as soon
Leave you in jail
If it’s edible, eat it
If not, then just bury it from view
Ah-ooo ---

It’s a doggy dog world
It’s a doggy dog world
We’re pedigree wanna-be’s
Our tails proudly curled
La-da-da-da-da-da-da-da
La-da-da-da-da-da-da-da
Ah-ooo, Ah-ooo ---

Gimme, gimme somethin’ good to eat
Good to eat off the floor
Then gimme, gimme everything you’ve got
Then gimme some more
Maryanne

A panter, a dancer
A real Fred Astaire
Leave me at home
And I’ll sleep in your chair
Opportunity passes you
Everywhere you go
Ooh-oh ---

It’s a doggy dog world
It’s a doggy dog world
We’re pedigree wanna-be’s
Our tails proudly curled
La-da-da-da-da-da-da-da
La-da-da-da-da-da-da-da
Ah-ooo, Ah-ooo ---

Gimme, gimme somethin’ good to eat
Good to eat off the floor
Then gimme, gimme everything you’ve got
Then gimme some more
Maryanne

That's The Way We Spent Our Day

Written By: Robin MacBlane and Larry Whitler

We were walkin' by the ocean
We were huntin' the perfect shell ---
When we spied a seagull landing
He was hungry, we could tell ---

So we threw him a tortilla
And he grabbed it like he was starved
Then a hundred other seagulls
Came from places near and far ---

That's the way we spent our day today
That's the way we spent our time
Time together is our favorite way
We don't worry
No reason to
I've got your love and you've got mine ---

We were walkin' up a hillside
When an arrowhead we did find
Now we count it among our treasures
And we share them, we don't mind

We've got marbles, we've got pennies
We've got shells, from the oceanside
After lunch we'll go huntin'
For some bugs and butterflies ---

That's the way we spent our day today
That's the way we spent our time
Time together is our favorite way
We don't worry
No reason to
I've got your love and you've got mine ---

Now we're sittin' in our pajamas
On the bedside before we sleep
Telling stories of our day now
Tucked away as memories ---

Now we're dreamin' of tomorrow
Great adventures lie ahead
Ride a moonbeam across the Milky Way
Like in the storybooks we read ---

That's the way we spent our day today
That's the way we spent our time
Time together is our favorite way
We don't worry
No reason to
I've got your love and you've got mine ---

Straight From A Child

Written By: Larry Whitler

Put on your cheeriest smile
When your luck seems
To be away for a while.
Smiles have a way of reversing emotions.
I know it sounds unusual.
But I got it
Straight from a child.

Coins in a fountain,
Each one a wish coming true,
Every coin in the pile.
Tossed from the hearts
Of dreamers believing.
I know it seems improbable.
But I got it
Straight from a child.

Oh, but to be,
As close to the angels
As children playing in the Autumn breeze.

So put down your check books,
Turn off the evening news
For some time with your child.
Love has a way, if you let it surround you,
I know it seems to obvious.
Believe me, it's
Straight from a child.

Oh, but to be,
As close to the angels
As children playing in the Autumn breeze.

So put down your lap tops,
Turn off your cellular phones
For some time with your child.
Love has a way, if you let it surround you,
I know it seems to obvious.
Believe me, it's
Straight from a child.

Quite A Catch Pete

Written By: Larry Whitler

At the baseball field on Mulberry Street
There was room on the bleachers for one more seat.
Then he recognized the Chevy on the street.
When the ball flew high,
And with the sun in his eyes,
He leapt to the sky
And above the muffled cries
He heard, "Quite a catch, Pete!"
"Quite a catch!"

It was close to dark one long summer day.
With one more shrimp to use as their bait.
And they joked the fish must've all swam away.
Then the line drew tight,
And with all of his might,
He put up a fight,
And he heard his father cry,
He heard, "Quite a catch, Pete!"
"Quite a catch"

Days move on and on as days will do.
We hold on to the memories of sunny afternoons.
Time is capsulated into you
And then you play it
Now and then, for a time or two.

At his wedding day he stood beside his bride.
And he made a toast to the best day of his life.
And he sure had found a beautiful wife.
His old man rose to his feet,
And he found it hard to speak,
And you could've heard a peep,
From the guests glued to their seats,
When he said, "Quite a catch, Pete"
"Quite a catch!"

Well he followed in his namesake's shoes.
He lived all the ups and downs we all do.
And he looked around from eyes of eighty two.
And he saw his kids.
And the kids of his kids.
And the kids of those kids,
And as his father once did,
He shouted, "Quite a catch, Pete!"
"Quite a catch!"

Days move on and on as days will do.
We hold on to the memories of sunny afternoons.
Time is capsulated into you
And then you play it
Now and then, for a time or two.

At the baseball field on Mulberry Street
There was room on the bleachers for one more seat.
Then he recognized the SUV on the street.
When the ball flew high,
And with the sun in his eyes,
He leapt to the sky
And above the muffled cries
He heard, "Quite a catch, Pete!"
"Quite a catch!"

Not Too Long Ago

Written By: Robin MacBlane and Larry Whitler

Not too long ago,
Back when I was a boy,
Every afternoon
I would come home from school
Grab a cookie or two.
Tell me what did you do.
Not too long ago.
Not too long ago.

Not too long ago
Back when I was a girl,
Every day after school,
I would play with my friends
And we all would pretend
Anything we wanted to.
Not too long ago.
Not too long ago.

I remember bicycles,
I remember friends,
I remember good times
We thought would never end.
I remember ice cream,
Playing in the sun,
I remember waiting
For summertime to come---

Not too long ago
Seems a lifetime away,
I am sure, through your innocent eyes.
Take these days while you're young,
Take each day as it comes,
That is how we survived.
Not too long ago.
Not too long ago.

I remember bicycles,
I remember friends,
Making paper good times
We thought would never end.
Flying paper airplanes,
Playing in the snow,
I remember waiting
For summer time to go.

A Hamster Poops

Written By: Larry Whitler

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I'd like to introduce,
Two of my little friends,
Dave and Bruce!

Bruce started out by himself
In a ten gallon tank
That we got when we got him downtown
At Frank's Pet Supply
Next to Cathy's Cafe---

Dave came along by surprise
He was wrapped in a box
As a present I couldn't believe
That I got
So I put him with Bruce,
I said, "Bruce, this is Dave."

The teacher told us show-and-tell
Should tell and show and teach.
Then asked me what I learned
From Dave and Bruce.
I closed one eye and thought real hard
And all that I could say,
"I guess I learned a hamster poops!"

Jane was the first one to giggle
And that's all it took
They were laughing,
It scared Bruce and Dave
And they shook kinda funny
Then ran off the edge of my desk!

No one could find them
Then Jimmy discovered a clue,
Like a black piece of rice
That got stuck to his shoe,
Then we found Bruce and Dave
Where the crayons are kept!

The teacher told us show-and-tell
Should tell and show and teach.
Then asked me what I learned
From Dave and Bruce.
I closed one eye and thought real hard
And all that I could say,
"I guess I learned a hamster poops!"
