"Album Review 'Adventure Handbook'"

3.5/5 Stars:

Moirs compositions are now even more self confident, straight and capture your heart straightaway. - Rolling Stone Germany

"Album Review 'Adventure Handbook'"

"You can recognize his Punk-Roots as former frontmann from Dead Letter Department, only if you know of them. Fans of modern Songwriting-Art with Folk Weft between campfire romance ("Only ones here"), Pop-Rock Festival songs ("Carry Me") and radio suited sing along tunes ("True Love"), will find joy in this record." - Plattenladentipps

"Album Review 'Adventure Handbook'"

"The gradual track "Just Ghost" is a great, catchy and ellaborate ballade. "The Wilderness I know" sounds powerfull although it only involves E-Guitar and Vocals. Moreover, "The Lonely Tourist" deals with Rob Moirs's past, bringing back the days of being frontmann in a canadian punk band. Good songs to listen and rock out to." - HIFI Stars

Rolling Stone (08/2013) (4/5)

„On and on – Moir sings his romantically sighing songs with punk-folk-rock in his heart and demonstrates a great feeling for quiet singer/songwriter moments.“ - Rolling Stone Magazine (German Print)

"Album Review ' Places To Die'"

Classic Rock (09/2013) (7/10)

"At the height of like-minded artists such as Mumford And Songs or The Lumineers, Rob Moir has the finger on the pulse of anyone who is interested in hand-made music with a message with his indie folk. Sometimes alternative rock ("Goodnight Sleeptight"), sometimes country ("Ghost Money", "You Lost Me At Hello"), sometimes following Tom Waits' example ("Oh, Margot Please", "Cold") and always Bob Dylan's, Rob Moir stirs the audience's blood and makes their toes tap. In particular the vocal fervour with which he expresses his feelings - be they longing, fear or rage, add a degree of authenticity to the stories on PLACES TO DIE that shouldn't be taken for granted. [...] Thumbs up." - Classic Rock Magazine

„My ears are only intersted in good music. And there is plenty of it coming out of my speakers here. Where’s the repeat button again?“ - Motor

Bio

500 shows, in over 20 countries, through out the past two years, traveling by trains, planes and even did one three month leg between Paris & Berlin entirely on bicycle, has given Toronto’s punk poet Rob Moir some stories to tell. With the release of his new album ‘Adventure Handbook‘ (Underground Operations/eOne – Canada, Make My Day Records – EU released August 2015) he celebrates every moment, wether it was playing concert halls, bars or the less conventional but way more intimate setting of living rooms and backyards and gardens all over the world. The lyrics are a response to the emotional highs and lows of being a full time touring songwriter.

“An odd thing about long stretches on the road is this constant feeling that you’ve forgotten or left something behind, the instant rush of thinking you’ve misplaced your wallet and then finding it again, you experience that over and over no matter how organized you are. You also have the daily excitement of being in new places, having conversations with actual locals and watching your music spread; it’s absolutely worth the strange things you put your body through”  – Rob Moir

With ‘Adventure Handbook’, Moir rekindles his love affair with American rock n roll and simple folk ballads. In the vein of timeless artists (and muses) like Bruce Springsteen, The Replacements and Jeff Tweedy, Rob’s songs are honest and exceedingly entertaining to see live. Rob continues to routinely finesse clever turns of phrase in his lyrics. The opening track ‘New Years Eve’ shows hope on the horizon, with ‘Run For Your Life’ & ‘Ports Of Call’ illuminating the excitement of doing what you love on an unknown course.

Formerly the front man for Toronto’s Dead Letter Department, Rob released his first solo EP in 2010 called ‘This Is The Lie’, then came the critically acclaimed LP ‘Places To Die’ in 2013 which Rolling Stone wrote in their 4/5 star printed album review, “Moir isn’t conservative; there’s something urgent in his songs, that are never too sure of themselves, and whose longing hasn’t found a home yet. Moir sings his romantic sighing songs with punk rock folk in his heart and in addition proves a great sense for quiet singer/songwriter moment”.

Since then, he’s toured Europe with Neko Case and shared the stage with fellow alt-folk artists such as Frightened Rabbit, Frank Turner and The White Buffalo. With past solo performances at international festivals; NXNE, CMW, BIGSOUND and multiple successful tours in Australia, Canada, Europe, UK and USA, Rob has proven his ability to silence rowdy audiences with his intimate performances, quick humour, and captivating stage presence.

Perpetually on the lonesome road, Rob continues to expand his audience as he perform his songs across the world, making fans the old fashion way, one dedicated believer at a time.
