"Someone Dubstepped a Jamband"

You hear that sound? That’s the sound of the Hippy Dream being crunched through the machine. Robot Ears is a new dubstep project featuring Anthony Diaz of the Burnin’ Smyrnans. Yeah, your favorite jammy jah-pop band just squeezed birthed an electronic sideshow. I can’t decide if that’s weird or awesome or both or neither.

Apparently, though, the duo’s live debut at the Aura Music & Arts Festival a couple of weeks ago went over very well, and a full EP, In Tent City (get it?), is in the works, so this whole electronic-hippy thing is for reals. That song up there, “New Yeah,” is the first “single from the EP,” according to the band, but I’m not at all sure how you take a single from an EP. Especially in 2011. Whatever, Robot Ears is gonna continue burnishing their festival credentials, as they just confirmed an appearance at the Orange Blossom Jamboree hippy gathering in May out at the Sertoma Youth Ranch in Brooksville.
