Hard, Hard Times

Written By: Rob Raroux

Workin’ two jobs, all day and night
Hard, hard times
Just to break even is a great big fight
Hard, hard times
They work you hard and they treat you rude
Hard, hard times
In a land of indentured servitude
Hard, hard times

People keep votin’ ‘em in again
And they keep doin’ us in

Hospital cuts the care they bring
Hard, hard times
Drive-thru window is the very next thing
Hard, hard times
Can they save your life? They just don’t know
Hard, hard times
Gotta check first with the HMO
Hard, hard times

People keep votin’ ‘em in again
And they keep doin’ us in

Gotta get a mortgage to gas your car
Hard, hard times
Twenty dollars at the pump won’t get you far
Hard, hard times
The price of oil is soaring so
Hard, hard times
In the United States of Texaco
Hard, hard times

People keep votin’ ‘em in again
And they keep doin’ us in

Here’s to the toast our leader swore
Hard, hard times
Here’s to the haves and to the have-mores
Hard, hard times
They’ll wave the red, white, and blue
Hard, hard times
Each time they put the screws to you
Hard, hard times

Katrina

Written By: Robert Rarus

Sittin’ on this rooftop, floods are rushin’ by
Levees overflowin’, wonderin’ if we’re gonna die
No food or water, how sad are we today
Can you tell me, brothers and sisters, why no help is on the way?

Guess we all don’t count much to that cowboy, what a fool
Next thing he’ll tell us, it’s what Jesus said to do

They’re talkin’ in that White House,
They don’t care ‘bout poor folk like me and you
We ain’t got much money, and we don’t know what to do
If we were rich folk, be a rescue like you have never seen
But people of color don’t count like the color green

Guess we all don’t count much to that cowboy, what a fool
Next thing he’ll tell us, it’s what Jesus said to do

Water keeps on risin’, gonna sweep us off this roof
So much for family values, we are the dying proof
Our kin and our neighbors are goin’ down in this flood
They ain’t gonna save us, we’ll be buried in the mud

Cradle of Civilization

Written By: Robert Rarus

Just a few short years ago, we saw the shock and awe
Lots of dazed civilians was the first thing that we saw
All the brave soldiers, to Baghdad, we did go
In the Cradle of Civilization, where the Tigris River flows

On the deck of the carrier, they said this war was won
But the bombs are still explodin’, looks like it’s just begun
That victory proclamation was a long, long time ago
In the Cradle of Civilization, where the Tigris River flows

They told us that the reason they were sending us to war
Was all them terrible weapons, aimed right at our shore
But them tools of mass destruction, never did they show
In the Cradle of Civilization, where the Tigris River flows

And so they changed the reasons they sent us off to war,
While we’re all a-wonderin’ just what we’re fightin’ for
How long will this war last? God, He only knows
In the Cradle of Civilization, where the Tigris River flows

Support our troops by ending the war swiftly and bringing our soldiers home safely now. Pray for peace. God bless America.
