Feeling a bit camera shy

“My goals are limitless – I can’t say what the future holds and I am not afraid to take chances. I am also not scared of failure. It all makes you a stronger person and provides you with knowledge for the next project. I can see myself doing all sorts of things from hosting a radio show to working in the business side of the music industry.”

Every artist, regardless of their God-given talents, needs an outlet in which to express those gifts to the world. For Rob Sauthoff, such outlets provide a means for an individual that’s deeply passionate about his love for music. Actually, an outlet is a humble way to describe what is fast becoming a multimedia empire that this 24-year old, Long Island native is steadily crafting. A man of action, Rob Sauthoff uses his versatility to expose music on several fronts. Utilizing his gift for songwriting, Sauthoff brings an old school feel and approach to music; a style that’s as real and heartfelt as it is entertaining. An accomplished journalist, Sauthoff offers exposure to many talented independent artists that exist in the underground. As an event coordinator and promoter, Sauthoff provides a vehicle for underground artists to perform their live shows. No question, Rob Sauthoff wears a lot of hats. And he wouldn’t have it any other way. “I love listening to music,” Sauthoff says. “And in turn, because it is what I am most passionate about, anything I do – from my writing to the events to articles – really revolves around providing a space for quality music to be heard.”

Rob Sauthoff is developing into a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. Just a quick mention of his accomplishments gives credence to Sauthoff’s all-around talents. As a writer, Sauthoff has collaborated with such artists as Karen Bernod, Dinky Bingham, Charisse Arrington, Jarrard Anthony, and Delilah Harris to name a few. Sauthoff’s journalistic accomplishments include over 15 articles published in both print and via the Internet since 1999, with interviews from commercial acts as Case, Musiq, Floetry and Slum Village among many others. The event coordinator/promoter side of Sauthoff has exposed the public to independent artists at various venues such as The 5 Spot in Brooklyn, The Cutting Room, Metronome, Crash Mansion and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. “If there is something I can do as a promoter to help [independent artists] gain some exposure, then I am more than happy,” Sauthoff says. “As a perk, I also get to see some of my favorite indie artists perform live…it's a beautiful thing!”

Growing up, Sauthoff was influenced by a variety of soul and R&B greats, both young and old. “Radio was my best friend,” Sauthoff says. “It was Whitney, Houston, Mariah Carey, Peabo Bryson and Chaka Khan that did it for me. I was drawn in by their music.” His fiery passion for music stoked, a 13-year old Sauthoff saved enough money to record in the studio. “I would write, produce and sing all original songs,” Sauthoff says. “It was never a question for me as a performer, that I would sing my own songs that I wrote.” Now entering his prime, Rob Sauthoff is creating a legacy that will reverberate in the music industry for years to come. But in the meantime, Sauthoff will continue building his music empire, one block at a time.

"From the moment I met Rob Sauthoff, I immediately recognized that he has that something special, and will be an instrumental player in the shaping of musical things to come. Along with all his versatile, creative talents, his level of ethics, integrity, commitment and passion to the music inspires me. He definitely stands out amongst the crowd and has the promise of being a great role model, influencing generations to come. No doubt...Rob Sauthoff is a trail-blazer, carving out his own unique path, and setting a new standard in today's music business."
