Bio
"These songs have fundamental elements that the everyday person can relate to."
Rob Smith puts his main emphasis on writing crafted songs. Since his first tunes were written in a high school notebook, Rob has stayed on the path of life through music.
Rob studied music at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Since then, he has performed in almost every major city in the U.S, sharing the stage with some of the biggest names in music including Sugar Ray, Jewel, Huey Lewis and the News, Switchfoot, Vanessa Carlton and Pat Benetar. While busy as a studio musician on guitar and bass, he has worked with world-renowned engineers and producers. He’s been heard on radio, TV, film, and many other artists’ recordings.
“The most important thing, I think, a song needs is honesty. You have to make a connection with people.”
Rob considers his guitar playing and vocals as simply vehicles to where ideas cross.
“There are good elements in everything. You just have to look for them and learn from them.” His influences span the spectrum of music. “I listen to everything from country, jazz, classical, hip-hop, funk, rock and Americana.”
Listening to Rob's acoustic sets reveal a touch of his favorite songwriters. Some of which include artists like Ben Harper and Jack Johnson, and tested legends like Stevie Wonder and Joe Cocker.
He plays his rhythmic driven guitar and sings smooth vocals in a comfortable laid back intensity.
