Rocio Marquez, born in Huelva in 1985 can claim to be the only singer in history, along with Miguel Poveda [probably todays most successful and popular flamenco singer], to have won four prizes in a single Festival of Flamenco Las Minas de la Union, Spains most important annual contest.  Beside winning the overall Lmpara Minera she triumphed in the categories of mineras, tarantas, murcianas, and the songs of Malaga, Granada, Crdoba and Huelva, much like the most important master of flamenco.  But she also belongs to a new jondo generation  that studies, preparing for a career the way an opera singer would.

She enjoys contributing to different projects, which bring together North African arabesques and the dramas of tango without losing sight of the traditions learnt in the local flamenco peas that were then nuanced at the more scholarly Fundacin Cristina Heeren in Seville.

With this knowledge, she has continued to build a strong career :  On first hearing, her voice stands out for its great arabesques or oriental ornamentation and her perfect afinacin or pitch and melodic accuracy, but she has attracted a following through her infinite capacity to transmit down to the finest matrix of these venerable verses.  Recently, at the Andaluca Flamenca festival in Madrids National Auditorium, she was named the heredera successor or inheritor of the two women who have brought the most to flamenco song in recent decades : Carmen Linares and Mayte Martn.

The release of her 1st album Claridad in 2012 pushed Rocio Marquez into a very prestigious and closed circle (Pepe Marchena, Paco de Lucia, Enrique Morente...) of payos (non gypsy) artists whove made their mark in the world of flamenco. This has opened the door of some of the worlds famous stages to her.
