Close your eyes, and take in the sounds of Rockdove. You’ll hear Patsy, and Loretta, and the Band, and Aretha and Tom Petty and Nick Drake and the Carter Family too. But mostly you’ll hear music sung with the soul of a gospel choir, because darlin’, they BELIEVE in this music...

Biography

At Rockdove’s debut performance, the band quickly transformed a loud and rowdy crowd of strangers into a rapt audience with the quiet power of their music. With heart wrenching songs about the sadness, suffering and the great beauty of living they turned the heads of people who heard their own lives reflected in the songs, and brought the strangers together.

Rockdove can do that. Gorgeous vocal harmonies and funky Muscle Shoals grooves, great songwriting and great musicians, sad, Nashville-skyline drenched ballads and love, love, love in their hearts, honey. Rockdove loves you.

Rockdove’s agenda? Find a balm for the ache of helplessness; stay true no matter what. It has worked like a charm.

Rockdove may be a relative newcomer on the scene, but it is comprised of four musicians with many years of experience. Sandy Bell, Alice Bierhorst, Laura Cromwell & John Mettam are all multi-instrumentalists & composers who have worked in numerous projects as bandleaders and sideplayers. A natural musician, she has learned several new instruments on the job with Rockdove. She is also featured in “Amazing Grace” an award-winning documentary about friend and fellow free spirit Jeff Buckley. http://www.sandybell.com

Lyrics

The Hours

Written By: Alice Bierhorst

All the hours I’ve been gone
I promise I’ve been right here
Like a star that fades at dawn
Always to reappear

CHORUS
I’ve been rushing over rocks
Ferrying the weight
Of the weeping
I’ve been running through the wheat
Sifting out the chaff
I swear I’m only sleeping

All the days that you move through
I’ve been right by your side
Like a mirror you peer through
I’ve no need to hide

CHORUS

When the final hour comes
I will take your hand
Step by step we’ll climb the stairs
To the promised land

CHORUS

Middle of the Lawn

Written By: John Mettam

I don’t want to go outside no more.
Don’t want to play the game or score.
If I step out of the door, I’ll lose myself for sure.
And that’s not what I’m looking for.

I used to think it was so nice out there.
In the sun without a care.
In the middle of the lawn, I had a smile but now it’s gone.
Never found it anywhere.

Ooh, don’t you know that I’m not the only one in here? It’s clear.
Ooh, and I’d do anything to take my leave of this fear.
But, it’s what I hold dear.

I sit at home and watch TV. And make believe that I am free.
The only thing I see is you are just like me.
Living in mediocrity.

Ooh, don’t you know that I’m not the only one in here? It’s clear.
Ooh, and I’d do anything to take my leave of this fear.
But it’s what I hold dear.
