Rockus Circus

Rockus Circus

BandRockAdult Contemporary

A classic influenced rock & roll band with Texas roots, RC puts on a great live show with energy and passion. Accessible melodies with straight forward yet poetic lyrics. They love to rock out, might get a little campy, and aren't afraid to be pretty. Don't miss The CIRCUS when it comes to town!

Biography

Rockus Circus is a band overwhelmingly concerned with churning out great songs to which people can relate, and performing them in an entertaining and passionate way. It's not difficult for them to do. That's not to say they don't work at it; simply stated, they're damn good at it.

Andrew Howard leads the band with his penchant for memorable melodies and his ability to craft words into meaningful lyrics. Howard is serious about song-craft, and is inspired by such writing legends as Van Morrison, The Eagles, Woodie Guthrie, The Beatles, and Hank Williams. On the heavier side of things, artists such as Queen, The Toadies, and even the metal band Avenged Sevenfold find their way into Howard's songwriting and the Rockus Circus sound. Howard gets into his songs on stage. Whether an original or a cover, he may shake his hips like Elvis or bang his head like Ozzy. All the while the sex appeal light stays on "green".

The other members of Rockus Circus are equally driven to convey songs with tasteful playing and exuberant showmanship. They definitely bring their own influences, passions, and personalities to the mix.

Co-founder and drummer CJ Gore is a rock & roll spirit to the core. Gore began his foray into music by playing guitar. Jamming with friends years ago he discovered his passion and natural ability to keep the beat, and keep it strong. Gore's persona drives his drumming: often aggressive and ass kicking, yet knowing when to back off. It is said that CJ falls asleep to the lullabies of John Bonham and Led Zeppelin.

Bassist Junior Scott is perhaps the most musically diverse of the quartet, having played bass in genres as varied as reggae, southern soul, and indie prog-pop. Scott's bass lines are both melodic and supportive. His high energy stage presence is the catalyst that drives the Circus' live performances.

Lyrics

Alibi

Written By: Andrew Howard

I'm feel¡n' twisted like a wicker weave
I can be your straw man, baby,
Burn me when you please
And when our time is closin', and the sun is high
You can leave me by the roadside
You don't have to watch me cry.

(CHORUS)
What love? Why lie?
Love is just --- just an alibi.
What love? Why lie?
Love is just --- just an alibi.

Kill my conscience with your wiles, the green flag will fly.
Save excuses for tomorrow ----
Lust flees from the morning light.
My heart the smoking barrel of all my crimes ---
With tears I'll cry the truth
I told my heart such lies.

You yank my chain, I'm your drunken monkey ----
And in the morning,
No one loves me.
You leave me drugged like gonja, you get me high ---
Then like a gun you kill me,
But I cannot seem to die.

Spare Me the Lies

Written By: Andrew Howard

SPARE ME THE LIES

(CHORUS)
I can understand if you leave me
Just please, darlin', don't deceive me
Cause I can only take so much of your lies.
Spare me the rhyme and the reason
I know it's all just treason
To the love that we had ----
I see through your disguise.
Spare me the lies, spare me the lies,
Spare me the lies, spare me the lies.

What a tangled web we weave
When first we practice to deceive.
Lies are dismissed as just something
the other perceives.
Truth can break and truth can bend.
Whether we ever meet again
The art of your lies and the pain they have caused will never die.

I've never seen my love so useless
As when you bring home your tired excuses.
I've been let down again; I'm longing for when I won't cry ----
I can't take it any longer,
Your kind of love just pulls me under.
So pack up your things, and you can sing your good-byes.

Bottle of Homicide

Written By: Andrew Howard

I don’t wanna wait around on you, baby
I don’t gotta hold your hand while you cry
I don’t wanna be your big soft maybe
You know you make me wanna lay down and die
You know you make me wanna lay down and die, lay down and die
You’re as bad as a bottle of homicide

Somebody oughta tell you where to get it
I don’t wanna have to tell you lies
I don’t wanna see you come up spittin’
You know you make me wanna lay down and die
You know you make me wanna lay down and die, lay down and die
You’re as bad as a bottle of homicide
You’re as bad as a bottle of homicide

I know you think you want me
But I ain’t your unlimited warranty
And I’ve seen you sneak up on me
I know you think you want me

I don’t wanna wait around on you, baby
I don’t gotta hold your hand while you cry
I don’t wanna be your big soft maybe
You know you make me wanna lay down and die
You know you make me wanna lay down and die, lay down and die
You’re as bad as a bottle of homicide
You’re as bad as a bottle of homicide
You’re as bad as a bottle of homicide

Differences

Written By: Andrew Howard

I wanna talk about what I did to you
I wanna talk about why it is you say we’re through
I wanna talk about what I made you cry
And I know that I was wrong, I made it hard to carry on
And I know that I was cruel to you

But if you feel like crying, I will ease your mind
If you feel like dying, I’ll be right behind
If you feel like I do, you’ll want me, too
If you feel like I do

I wanna be the one to change your mind
Don’t wanna be the one you’ve left behind
I wanna hear you say “darlin’, it’s all alright”
And I know that I was wrong, I made it hard to carry on
I know that I was cruel to you

But if you feel like crying, I will ease your mind
If you feel like dying, I’ll be right behind
If you feel like I do, you’ll want me, too
If you feel like I do

Pick apart the times I made you cry
I know you’ll often wonder why we go on
Why we hold on

Cause if you feel like crying, I will ease your mind
If you feel like dying, I’ll be right behind
If you feel like I do, you’ll want me, too
If you feel like I do, you’ll want me, too
If you feel like I do – Hey hey, if you feel like I do

Grey Skies

Written By: Andrew Howard & Matthew "Junior" Scott

Oh, for a world full of heartache and pain
Where the blue skies of hopefulness won’t disappoint me again
Or for a time when I was your man
And loving you wasn’t just a dream

Cause grey skies never let me down
They’re always full of rain
It’s easy to get by when no one thinks you’re sane
And heartache just won’t go down
When you’re up against a wall
But let those four walls come closing in
And now you’re up against ‘em all
Cause I’m lost. My mind doesn’t know what you did to me
I just get by, hoping some day you’ll know how it feels

So, grey I’ll be, I’ll be so silently
The color of everything that’s left inside of me
Blue will be marooned as the color of the moon
That hides behind my melancholy sky

Cause grey skies never let me down
They’re always full of rain
It’s easy to get by when no one thinks you’re sane
And heartaches just hurt much worse
When it comes as a surprise, it’s hard to know the truth
When all you’ve heard are lies
Cause I’m lost. My mind doesn’t know what you did to me
I just get by, hoping some day you’ll know how it feels

Oh, for a world full of heartache and pain
Where the blue skies of hopefulness won’t disappoint me again
Or for a time when I was your man
And loving you wasn’t just a dream

Guarantee

Written By: Andrew Howard

I may be forced to wait upon you
By some measure of my own dumb heart
But if I showered you with warmth, love, and tenderness
Won’t you please, please give me a place to start

(CHORUS)
So wipe that smile now from your face
It’ll be much harder than you think
Keepin’ this rail runnin’ all night long
It’s much more than just leaning upon the throttle
Well, this stuff don’t come in bottles
Upon a shelf, but you can help yourself
Just tell me what you need, I’ll make a guarantee
You can get it from me
Just tell me what you need, I’ll make a guarantee
You can get it from me

I’ll walk the line it takes to do this
We can make it if we try, try, try
And if you’ll give to me a little faith and understanding
I’ll catch every tear falls from your eye

Close your eyes and it’s alright
Open them and there’s sunlight
Close your eyes and there’s sunlight
Open them and it’s alright – ooohh
Just tell me what you need, I’ll make a guarantee
You can get it from me
Just tell me what you need, I’ll make a guarantee
You can get it from me

Kellie

Written By: Andrew Howard

I can see you standing there
Your sultry lines and your silky stare
I wanna hold you but I do not dare

(CHORUS)
You freeze me and I can’t move - You seize me, what can I do?
You freeze me, oh, I need you
The roads are restless in the summer heat
You move down the avenue and I lose my beat
All day long I wonder where you are
As near as my next breath or as far as the stars
It really doesn’t matter cause you’ve got my heart

With or without your love I’ll die
But your longing gaze could bring fire to my life
I wanna hold you but I dare not try

You’re like a dream that I’m afraid to touch
My soul will wake, I know it must
But in your eyes I see you need some body to trust…

Loaded

Written By: Andrew Howard

Build me up and shoot me down
Don’t call me any names
I’ve had my chance and a few
But to me they’ve both become the same
So just don’t, oh baby don’t, oh honey don’t, don’t tell me

(CHORUS)
Well, don’t bother less you’re loaded
Cause you know you can’t be sold it
And I don’t wanna let you down – hey yeah
Don’t bother less you’re loaded
Cause you know you can’t be sold it
And I don’t wanna let you down

Don’t buy me off, just take me home
And I can tell you what you need to hear
Don’t ask me why, just tell me how
And I can take you far away from here
But just don’t, oh baby don’t, oh honey don’t, don’t tell me

No more questions, I need answers
I see toil and I see tears
I see hard luck and bad decisions
I smell broken-hearted beer
So just don’t, oh baby don’t, oh honey don’t, don’t tell me

Pirate

Written By: Andrew Howard

(Heave! Ho! Heave! Ho!)

I’ve sailed around the world and had my fun on the seven seas
I’ve rid the rich of their money and brought empires to their knees
Been chased by Spanish sailors, brought down by British guns
But every time they think I’m gone, oh, here I come

(CHORUS)
Whoa—eee—oh-oh! yeah yeah yeah yeah!
I fly the skull and crossbones as my bloody flag
Whoa—eee—oh-oh! yeah yeah yeah yeah!
You see me coming, better run your sails up fast
I’m a pirate (yeah, yeah, I’m a pirate – Arrrgh!)

I’ve seen the mouth of the Congo, I’ve been to the isle of Crete
I’ve watched cannibals eat pilgrims like they were Sunday meat
I’ve filled my veins with wine and rum
I’ve hung many from the mast, you think you’re the only one?

Look there on the horizon boys, a clipper at half sail
Let’s descend upon her like a bloody demon gale
So load up the guns, boys, and raise your glasses high
For tonight we take some treasure or tonight we die

The Saddest Day

Written By: Andrew Howard

Well, I’m down to the bone and I’m sure I’d miss home
If I really cared any more
I’m stabbed and I’m stained and I’d empty my veins
If I really thought that’s the cure

(CHORUS)
I’d like to make an appeal
Close my eyes, this day can’t be real
I’ve had enough, I am through with my head for today
I am locking my heart away
It’s all used up anyway

With my hand on the wheel, I’ll swallow this day like a pill
And I’ll go through the motions in time
I’m going home to bed and try to ease my head
With anything I can find

Turn Away

Written By: Andrew Howard

Sometimes it seems like what I want
Sometimes it seems like what I need
But I can tell you, every time I bleed
Every time I bleed, every time I bleed

I know I’ve got to turn away
I don’t want to walk with you anymore
I know I’ve got to turn away
I don’t want to walk with you anymore

Sometimes it seems like it is night
But I am blind and it is light
And I can tell you, every time I cry
Every time I cry, every time I cry
I know I’ve got to turn away
I don’t want to walk with you anymore
I know I’ve got to turn away
I don’t want to walk with you anymore

And when you hear the angels
You know they make such a lonesome sound
And you shake hands with the devil
You know that boy know his way around
And with your hand on the anvil
Oh, you can’t forge - not a single crown
And when you see all the angles
You know it all gonna come crashing down
