Back in 2000, Tim Oliver & Paul Devine began a song writing project that would evolve into Hemi 69. With no intentions of starting a band they began recording original music & a few covers with an old analog 4-track & a drum machine. For obvious reasons they soon replaced the drum machine with a real drummer. Putting together a set list they began playing local venues to "road test" the new material.
The name Hemi 69 reflects Paul & Tim's mutual interest in Mopar muscle cars, women & the number 69.
Over time bassists, rhythm guitarist & especially drummers came & went And although the band always did well in competitions the frequent changes began to slow much of Hemi 69's momentum.
Still, they managed to get voted "best local original band" in 2005 by the readers of Pulse magazine with honorable mentions in 2004 & 2006.
Their four song demo, available at Myspace.com/rockwithhemi69 was recorded entirely with studio time won in various "Battle of the bands" competitions. On Sepember 30th they won more studio time when they were voted "peoples choice" in a battle of the bands in Mississauga.
Hemi 69 is now proudly based in Thorold, Ontario were they a currently working on new material & playing local shows.
Because Hemi 69's sound does not fit comfortably within the confines of any one genre it tends to appeal to a wide variety of tastes.
There is, however one common denominator at a Hemi 69 show. Oh yes.... There will be rock!
