E' stato fatto 13! Notizia fresca dall'Austria per il secondo lavoro dei Rocquette e che ha per titolo proprio tale numero; band capitanata dalla sensuale Barbie Hardrock in doppia veste songwriter/lead vocal affiancata dal chitarrista e produttore Thomas R. Perry, dal drummer Oliver H. Sheuer e dal chitarrista ritmico Hurricane Harry che non compare nella cover, ma suona nelle performances dal vivo; i giovani musicisti in questione hanno già all'attivo l'album "Too Fast For Love" (2007) e due Ep: "Detoxic" (2006) e "Lent Jewels" uscito il Giugno scorso. Il presente "13", come le tracce del cd e distribuito in Italia tramite l'April Rain Promotion, suona un rock semplice e concreto sulla scia di band come Hole e Garbage orecchiabili in modo particolare nell'opener track "One And Only Drive (That's Your Life), "Our Fists Against The Dirty Biz" nonché primo singolo e videoclip, "Nothing But Rock'n'Roll, "Live To Ride", "Rockabadooba" un titolo che trovo simpatico e che mi riporta alla mente lo storico yabadabadoo di Fred Flinstones e perché no?! Potrebbe essere una "song for Bedrock City and Flinstones Family"! Ancora segnali Hole/Garbage in "Tornado" e
nella conclusiva "Voodoo Rock Puppet" dal riff di chitarra interessante che in parte ricorda una tra le rock song più celebri di tutti i tempi: "Sweet Home Alabama" dei Lynyrd Skynyrd. Il sound sin qui descritto non è comunque l'unico perché i Rocquette omaggiano rock in salsa mista come nel secondo singolo dell'album "Mhmmmmargarita" (anch'esso accompagnato da un vidoclip), in leggero e gradito rockabilly style mentre note più spensierate e da move jump le si ascoltano in "Mexico Song" e in special modo in "Motherrocker", dove il chorus diverte soprattutto in un finale rivestito di cori a gogo e da un applauso nel fade-out che calza a pennello in quanto, a parere personale, è strameritato. Immancabile momento soft con la ballad "Take A Walk Outside Your Mind", ma con finale a sorpresa svelato da un solo a tutta birra, "Just Needed A Star" si distingue per un sound più vicino a quello della pop rocker Avril Lavigne e in quanto alla folkloristica "Keep On Rockin" ho deciso di menzionarla come ultima perché è l'augurio che si è di solito rivolgere ai musicisti e io lo faccio ai Rocquette, con tanto di plauso, per la speciale semplicità che trasmettono attraverso la loro musica; un album che ha fatto davvero "13". Interessante nuova band entrata da poco a far parte della APRILRAIN PROMOTION con cui collaboriamo, la net label della press agent IRENE si e assicurata nella scuderia questi ROCQUETTE austriaci, un bel power trio di ottimo hard boogie rock'n roll.. ascoltare per credere.. 13 canzoni come suggerisce il titolo del disco ben suonati ben prodotti e di ottima qualita' sonora.. la band sembra scanzonata e divertente, proponendo forse un rock retro' sempliciotto ma sempre efficace e mai stancante.. gia' dalla prima traccia vi faranno alzare e ballare, adattissimo per le vostre feste e viaggi in auto.. bella voce oltre che una bella donna la cantante che sfoggia forme da pin up facendo sicuramente colpo sul pubblico maschile in versione live! difficile trovare una stonatura in questo 13.. le canzoni scivolano via come l'olio leggere e si arriva alla fine del cd senza accorgersene.. per ricominciare la festa sonora che i ROCQUETTE ci propongono.. bella mossa complimenti alla IRENE e alla sua APRILRAIN per aver agganciato un'altra perla alla loro gia' folta scuderia, un catalogo di tutto rispetto per una NET LABEL che sa fare il suo mestiere e scusate se e poco in italia!

In etwa so würde ich ROCQUETTE beschreiben, wenn ich nur einen Satz zur Verfügung hätte.

Die Niederösterreicher sind seit 2005 fleißig am Schaffen und längst kein unbeschriebenes Blatt mehr. So werden regelmäßig Gigs absolviert, unter anderem waren ROCQUETTE auch schon in Amerika unterwegs.

Musikalisch gesehen, sollte mit dem ersten Satz eigentlich schon fast alles gesagt sein. Die dreizehn (!!!) Tracks auf „13“, bestechen durch ordentliches Songwriting und sind fein arrangiert. Barbie Hardrock‘s Stimme hat Wiedererkennungswert und auch die Kollegen haben sehr brav gearbeitet.

Ich hätte mir eine etwas druckvollere Produktion gewünscht. „13“ klingt echt nicht übel, aber die Drums und ganz speziell die Gitarren könnten doch etwas mehr „anschieben“.

Als junge Band mit Songs wie diesen an den Start zu gehen, ist sicher nicht alltäglich. Die meisten anderen Kombos verschreiben sich derzeit ja doch eher dem Thrash-/Death-/Black-Metal. Man hört jedoch bei jedem Ton heraus, dass ROCQUETTE zu dem stehen was sie da machen und genau das zählt letztlich.

Die Platte versprüht gute Laune und genau darum sollte es bei dieser Art Musik ja gehen. ROCQUETTE haben mit „13“ eine tolle „Party-Scheibe“ abgeliefert und es bleibt mir hier nur mehr zu wünschen, dass das Trio viel Erfolg damit hat.

Im übrigen sind die drei aktuell auf der Suche nach einem Bassisten und einem Schlagzeuger. Sollte jemand Interesse haben, sind sie sicherlich nicht böse darüber.

Austrian rock band Rocquette is a powerhouse of loud guitar and melodic rhythms that are pure rock ‘n’ roll.  Barbie Hardrock on vocals is accompanied by Thomas Perry on lead guitar, Hurricane Harry on rhythm guitar, and various artists on bass and drums.  With an 80’s rock feel and a dash of rockabilly and blues, Rocquette creates a unique and refreshing sound that is made even more so by Barbie Hardrock’s wonderfully energetic vocal delivery.
 
13 begins with a montage of sirens that open the track “One And Only Drive (That’s Your Life).”  With nothing to stop this band from opening up full throttle, they do exactly that with melodic guitar work and a rhythm that begs to be danced to.  “Mexico Song” carries a bit of humor in the well-written lyrics as Barbie sings “Why do they play that crap on the radio / And just ignore the songs I wrote?”  Considering the state of commercial radio, this is a valid lyric, but rather than sounding peevish and irritable, Barbie sings the song with a playful lilt in her voice that makes her gripe sound like an inside joke between her and the listener.  
 
Rocquette is clearly a band that knows their rock, proven by “Our Fists Against The Dirty Biz,” which carries attitude, screaming guitars and a foot-tapping beat that will lodge into the heart and mind, but they also do a bit of rockabilly.  “Mhmmmargarita” is a delight, with fantastic vocals and the swinging essence of the perfect rockabilly tune.  The horns are the perfect touch and this high energy track shows that this band likes to have fun.  In keeping with the theme of 13, “Nothing But Rock ‘n’ Roll” is precisely what the title suggests.  Rocquette does a fantastic job with the interchanging rhythms of this piece and the guitar work is fantastic.  Slowing the pace down slightly, “Take A Walk Outside Your Mind” shows the more artistic and mellow side of this band and this is a flawless and brilliant piece.  The lyrics are strong, thoughtful and exceptionally well-written and delivered gracefully.  Lighters will flicker in the crowd and people will be swaying side to side as Rocquette performs this one.      
 
“Motherrocker” eases back into their comfort zone, but this tune has a playful rhythm that will endear listeners and make it yet another fan favorite.  “Live To Ride” has an 80’s vibe that will delight rockers of all ages.  With its dramatic ending, this would be the quintessential show closer before the encore.  While listening to 13, one can’t help but want to see this band play live, which is unusual.  Listeners rarely get a good feel for what a band would sound like live based on a studio recording, but with Rocquette, their vibe is so full of energy that this could conceivably be a live album.
 
“Just Needs A Start” kicks off with some blazing guitar work that brings to mind Social Distortion.  The rhythm is laid back and rife with contagious guitar licks.  This track leads nicely into “Rockabadooba” and Barbie lets loose a little with some great vocals.  As with nearly every song on this track, this one is full of pure energy.  The album begins to wind down with “Tornado” which needs little comment, as it is what we’ve come to know and love from Rocquette.  “Keep On Rocking” has a bit of funk to it and a classy rhythm that works well with the sultry vocals.  13 closes with “Voodoo Rock” and Rocquette leaves us on creative note and an almost bluesy rhythm that will linger long after the song ends.  This band has attitude, they like to have fun, and most of all, they enjoy making music and they do it exceedingly well.

Too often music fans allow “the buzz” to fashion their preconceived notions about what is heady or cool enough to enjoy without risking looking uncool or unhip. So we end up convincing ourselves to agonize over dissecting and digesting the James Blakes and Best Coasts when we’d really rather be thrusting a set of goat horns in the air and diving into our air guitars. Why are we so quick to ignore the fact that our love of music was cultivated by Hit Parader magazine and 80s MTV? Then a band like Austria’s Rocquette come along and remind you how heroic (and fun) a pomp and cocksure, tried-and-true rock band can be. 13 is an arena-ready, 80s rock conjuring ball buster that owes equal debts to Poison, The Go Gos, Joan Jett and AC/DC. Vocalist Barbie Hardrock delivers unbridled vocals, while the band traverses decades worth of high-octane rock. Nowhere is this more evident than on fist pumper “Nothing But Rock ‘n Roll.” Likewise, “Take a Walk Outside Your Mind” is a Motley Crue style ballad that harkens to “Home Sweet Home” and raised cigarette lighters. Is it a little cliché or schticky? Perhaps, but it is also a heck of a lot of fun. Afterall, some of the most celebrated rock bands of all time were a little goofy and a lot over the top. Queen? Def Leppard? I think the lesson here is not to sacrifice swagger for cynicism. Rocquette is the kind of band to put the fire back in your heart and loins, or in the very least make you wish you had a leotard or a form fitting pair of leather pants.

PRINT: BARBIE HARDROCK - warum gute Mädchen in den Himmel kommen und Rockladies überall hin.

Als Barbie Hardrock vor fast 10 Jahren mit der Girlieband Bitchicks erstmals die heimischen Bühnen betrat, konnte sie noch nicht ahnen, wie weit sie ihre Stimme tragen wird. Bisweilen bis in die USA, deren Südwesten sie mit ihrer Poprock Band Rocquette heimsuchte. Werner Harauer befragte den Herzogenburger Rotschopf nach seinem Erfolgsgeheimnis.

City-Flyer: Gibt man deinen bürgerlichen Namen Melanie Planyavsky im Google ein, findet man dich dort auch als bildende Künstlerin vertreten. In deiner Musik-Biografie steht davon nichts. Hat es einen Grund, warum du deine Rolle als Bildende Künstlerin und Musikerin trennst?

Barbie Hardrock: Eigentlich trenne ich das gar nicht, der Künstlername Barbie Hardrock steht sowohl für Singer/Songwriter von Rocquette, als auch für die Acrylmalerei, darum ist die Werkesammung auch unter www.barbiehardrock.com zu finden. Dort ist auch auf die Rocquette-Website verlinkt. Umgekehrt haben wir keinen Link gesetzt, da die Musik bei mir an erster Stelle kommt. Damit befasse ich mich bereits seit 20 Jahren.


C-F: Seit wann beschäftigst du dich mit Malerei? Und wann bist du mit deinen Werken das erste Mal an die Öffentlichkeit getreten?

Barbie: Ich male seit circa 10 Jahren. Zum ersten Mal öffentlich ausgestellt habe ich meine Bilder damals bei der Initiative Schlachthof am St. Pöltener Rathausplatz, am 11. Mai 2002. Meine erste eigene Vernissage fand 2005 in Wels statt.


C-F: Die klischeebehafteten Rollenbilder einer Malerin und einer Frontfrau einer Rockband unterscheiden sich stark. Wie gehst du mit den Erwartungshaltungen deiner "Kundschaft" um?

Barbie: Da könntest du Recht haben. Vielleicht macht diese Erwartungshaltung die Sache erst spannend, nämlich dass man auch Malerei von der Frontfrau einer Rockband kaufen kann.


C-F: Mich beeindruckt, wie du in deiner Band Rocquette die Rolle der Front frau ausfüllst. Als Mischung aus Suzie Quatro und Avril Lavigne hast du Potential für eine riesige Fangemeinde. Aus welcher Ecke kommt deiner Meinung nach der typische Rocquette Fan?

Barbie: Ich glaube, dass es den "typischen" Rocquette Fan nicht gibt. Die Fans von Rocquette kommen aus allen Genres. Müsste ich mich aber für ein Genre entscheiden, wäre das Rock. Die Musik von Rocquette basiert auf lauter, E-Gitarren-lastiger Mischung verschiedener Rock-Richtungen (Hardrock, Poprock). Das kommt von unseren am meisten gehörten Bands wie Aerosmith, AC/DC, Guns n'Roses, um nur wenige zu nennen. Dazu hat sich in den letzten Jahren eine melodiöse, ins Ohr gehende Vorliebe für Country und Blues entwickelt, die auf unsere Trips nach Nashville, Memphis und auch den Süd-Westen Amerikas und die da­bei gesammelte Inspiration zurückgeht. Bei mir persönlich kommen noch die Rock-Giganten der 80er dazu, wie Poison und Def Leppard ... daher ist auch bei Rocquette mit Gänsehaut-Feeling und "Gitarren-Solo-auf-Felsen-mit-im-Wind-wehenden-Haaren"-Intros zu rech nen. Außerdem beeinflussen mich wahnsinnig tolle Sängerinnen wie Nancy Sinatra und Tina Turner. Um deine Frage zu beantworten: Genauso breit gefächert zeigt sich die "musikalische Ecke" unserer Fans!


C-F: Irgendwelche musikalischen Neue rungen wird man in euren Songs nicht entdecken. Stattdessen hat man das Gefühl, Bekanntes aus weit zurück liegenden Zeiten zu hören mit dem Bewusstsein, dass dies gar nicht möglich ist, weil die Aufnahmetechniken viel zu perfekt sind. Willst du den Hörern ein Gefühl der Sicherheit vermitteln? Quasi nach dem Motto: hört euch das an, wir wollen euch nicht schocken, wir bringen nur das, was immer gut war und immer gut sein wird. Eine sehr konservative Haltung eigentlich.

Barbie: Was Rocquette von anderen Bands unterscheidet ist, dass wir uns nicht zwanghaft darauf konzentrieren neue "Schocker" zu erfinden oder uns gegen den Mainstream zu wehren. Das Hauptaugenmerk liegt darin, Rock'n'Roll zu machen, der uns und dem Hörer einfach Spaß macht. Und da sind wir auch nicht zu stolz, um mal am Gitarrenverstärker den "70er Jahre-Sound-Knopf" zu drücken. Seit dem neuen Album "13" werden wir genau darauf angesprochen, dass gerade diese Mischung aus Altem (z.B. kitschige Rock-Ballade á la 80er) und Modernerem (Vergleiche wie "erwachsene Avril Lavigne", Pink) eine willkommene Abwechslung für Publikum sowie auch für die Medien und Kritiker darstellen.


C-F: Auch dein Rollenbild als Frontfrau auf der Bühne ist stark überzeichnet. Barbie Hardrock wirkt wie eine weibliche Anime-Figur aus einem japanischen Zeichentrickfilm. Ist das Kalkül?

Barbie: Tatsächlich? Das höre ich zum ersten Mal! Obwohl, privat ist mir schon ein-, zweimal gesagt worden dass meine Augen irgendwie was Asiatisches haben. Das hab ich von meiner Oma. Nein, das ist eigentlich keine Absicht - das erklärt zumindest betreffend meiner kleinen Sch - City Flyer

Es dreht sich um ein einzigartiges, internationales Produkt, und wir freuen uns, es (mit-)präsentieren zu dürfen. „Rocquette – 13“ ist da:

Nach zweijähriger Entstehungsphase des neuen Albums mit dem Titel „Rocquette – 13“ ist es nun endlich soweit: Barbie Hardrock und Thomas M. Perry alias Rocquette veröffentlichen ihr aktuelles Werk. Der kreative Prozess des Longplayers beanspruchte dabei die meiste Zeit der Musiker. Denn die Studioaufnahmen waren innerhalb von 4 Wochen abgeschlossen.

Der Longplayer enthält 13 energiegeladene Songs, wodurch eine Mischung aus HardRock, Country-Rock, Blues-Rock und Power-Pop entstanden ist. Die Albumtexte wurden bis auf wenige Kleinigkeiten von Barbie Hardrock selbst verfasst.

Unterstützung für ihre Songs erhielten die beiden Musiker von dem Rooga Bassisten Victor Ezio Gabriel, dem Drummer Jürgen Puffler und Gerry Krautinger. Das Album selbst wurde größtenteils in den eigenen Räumen zusammen gestellt. Lediglich die Aufnahme der Drums, Percussions und der finale Mixdown erfolgte in einem externen Wiener Studio. Das Mastering des Werks erfolgte wieder einmal in New York City und die Pressung stammt aus unserem Nachbarland Deutschland. Durch diese Voraussetzungen wird das neueste Werk von Rocquette zu einem einzigartigen internationalen Produkt.

Die beiden Musiker sind zunächst im Spiel!Raum in Kapfenberg (5. März 2011 um 18:00) und dann in der Szene Wien (13. Mai 2011) wieder live unterwegs.

Skope: How did you react when you knew you are now A2W selected on Skope?
Rocquette: We were at the Treasure Island Hotel in Las Vegas at that time, just checking into the E-Mails quickly. When I spotted the answer, I yelled over to Thomas “Oh yeah man! Selected for the artist feature in Skope Mag!” and he turned round, looking at me and answering “Hey, awesome!!!”
Skope: What are two goals that you want to accomplish musically in 2011?
Rocquette: One goal is definitely another international tour. There are local shows on the schedule for the upcoming weeks, and some more performances across Europe currently under discussion. We would love to include the other continents, again or first time, too. Let´s see where it takes us this time! Another goal are some more new songs during the next months.
Skope: If you had to choose one thing that your band must improve on what would that be and how will you do it?
Rocquette: Well, maybe a little help with organizational issues would be good – as a DIY band, there is all the “behind the scenes”-stuff that takes up most of our time. I feel that we could be much more efficient with spreading our music with some more hands e.g. on the computers, and what is more, we could be faster with the songwriting too. Currently, there´s just so much to do, that we often have to leave the fun part (making music) for later, because things need to get organized first. And of course, it would – actually even help the issue too that I just talked about – great if we could make a living out of our music, and focus on doing what we love.
Skope: What are two other non-mainstream musicians or bands that you are listening to these days & respect?
Rocquette: At first, of course there is Aerosmith – our all time heroes. They do have some mainstream songs, one might say – yes, of course. However, the majority is non-mainstream (last album was a blues album). Their songs are on air since ages, anywhere in the world, still gaining new fans! And it´s one of the bands, I can listen to in nearly any mood, at every time of the day. We just love Aerosmith! Another band that is in heavy rotation of our players is definitely Airbourne. When the people around me had no idea who they are, I used to describe them as “AC/DC on speed”. By now, they made their name quite big, and they are playing the huge festivals, sending you home with an immense head-banging-pain (and, as they do sing too, “your ears bleed “) LOL
Skope: How has playing music offered more fulfillment in your life?
Rocquette: It´s the one thing that helps with everything :-) It let´s you forget about problems, makes you happier, can make you even more sad when you´re having a heart-ache, let´s you fire-up your energy, or chill you out on a Sunday… It´s like the air that we breathe.. always with us and we couldn´t stand a day without!
Skope: What is coming up for you & where you at online?
Rocquette: We are looking forward to some interviews on radios and TV shows, as well as some more performances. Wie kann eine junge aufstrebende Band möglichst gut auf sich aufmerksam machen? Mit guter Musik einerseits - zweifelsfrei. Über Rocquette

Ungefähr zur selben Zeit, in zwei verschiedenen Kleinstädten Österreichs, wuchsen Leadsängerin Barbie Hardrock und Gitarrist Thomas M. Perry auf der Suche nach echter Gitarrenmusik auf, und stapelten Filme wie “Detroit Rock City“ und “Wayne´s World", um nur ein paar zu nennen - und füllten Regale mit Alben von Aerosmith, AC/DC, GunsNRoses, Kiss, Poison, Pat Benatar, und viele mehr. Die beiden trafen sich bei einem Casting von Barbies damaliger Band, welche gerade auf der Suche nach einem Leadgitarristen war. Anfang 2005 gründeten sie die Band und schufen mit Rocquette eine Marke für laute, harte, melodische Gitarrenmusik.

Lautstarke CD-Präsentation
(le.) Die niederösterreichische Band Rocquette stellte am Donnerstag ihre neue Platte "13" vor. Zahlreiche Döblinger machten sich auf ins "Local", denn dort konnte man stilecht, mit einem Spielchip als Eintrittskarte, nicht nur die neue CD ergattern, sondern Sängerin Barbie Hardrock und ihre Band auch gleich live in Aktion erleben. Die Gruppe selbst will sich musikalisch ungern nur einem Genre zuordnen und beschreibt die neuen Songs etwas umständlich als eine Mischung aus Pop-Rock und Rock´n´Roll mit starken melodischen Elementen. Beim fünften Lied machten die Musiker aber klar, dass hier "Nothing but Rock´n´Roll" gespielt wird. Leadgitarrist, Songwriter und Produzent der Band, Thomas M. Perry, zwang gewaltige Rockriffs aus den Röhren seines Verstärkers und präsentierte Gitarrensoli, die die großen amerikanischen Vorbilder erahnen ließen.
"Hier ist einfach das richtige Publikum", erklärte Simone Reiländer, Managerin und Bookerin der Band, während die Fans schon Stühle aus dem Weg räumten, um Platz zum Tanzen zu schaffen. Und man feierte weiter, auch nachdem die dröhnenden Verstärker und grellen Bühnenlichter bereits ausgeschaltet waren.

Ende Juli und An­fang Au gust spielten sie mehrere Gigs in Texas, am 4. und 12.9. kann man Rocquette wieder in hei mat lichen Gefilden, im Wiener "Bach" und in der "Hogbar" in Salzburg erleben.

Lower Austria´s Rocquette has released two brand new singles "One And Only Drive (That´s Your Life)" and "Mhmmmargarita". The first combines the big guitar rock heroics of Guns´N´Roses with the horns and vocals of a band like Save Ferris, while "Mhmmmargarita" is a fun rockabilly romp that couples Stray Cat strut with Gogos attitude. Singer Barbie Hardrock shows her versatility in style by delivering ballsy, confident vocals that make each of the songs feel like an arena worthy rave up. 05.06.2010: Im Zuge des Vater-Kind Festes bespielen ROCQUETTE und EVIDENT SIN den Rathausplatz St. Pölten.

Heuer findet zum zweiten Mal das "Vater-Kind Fest" am Rathausplatz St. Pölten statt. Von 9 bis 16 Uhr wird die Kinderfreunde Ortsgruppe "Krems-Lerchenfeld" heuer erstmals den ganzen Tag über für Spiel, Spaß und Kinderanimation sorgen. Musikalisch untermalt wird das Ganze von den Musikgruppen "Just Live" und "Pätchwörk". Mit dabei der Staatsmeister in Zauberei „Tommy Ten“ und eine Hüpfburg. Auch für kulinarischen Köstlichkeiten wird gesorgt.

Ab 18 Uhr werden ROCQUETTE, rund um Frontrau BARBIE HARDROCK, dem Publikum mächtig einheizen. Weitere Mitglieder der niederösterreichischen Band sind Thomas M. Perry (Lead Guitar), Robert Prucha (Bassist) und Jam Puffler (Drums).

Und ab etwa 19 Uhr ist es Zeit für die Wiener Rockbarden von EVIDENT SIN. Die Band besteht aus Manou (Voc), Rico (Rythm Guitar), Mike (Bass), Matthias (Drums) und Ben (Lead Guitar). - City Flyer

Rocquette is a rockin, loud, punchy and most definitely sexy band. With a stellar line up of original tunes this CD boasts a range of rock that you can definitely listen to again and again. The music is strong and sound and heavy hitting, with a straightforward appeal.

The band was formed 2005 in Austria by Barbie Hardrock and Thomas “TMP” Perry. With some initial and expected growth from the first releases this band became direct, rock-solid, and commanding hard rock. Their live shows are guitar energized and a load of fun. In June 2007, the first official Rocquette album “Too Fast For Love“ was performed live during a Release Gala Show at the Gasometer Vienna theatre to an adoring crowd.

In 2009 the final line up of Rocquette was completed when drummer Jam “Puffman” Puffler and rhythm guitar player Alexander Handl joined the band. Handl, who has a reputation of squeezing his guitar until you feel great orgasmic ear-explosions, was a welcome addition. These rockers add the musical backbone that creates and emphasizes the heavy hitting yet very melodic sound that is Rocquette.

We’re going to make a quick hop over the Alps and drop in on the little country of Austria. In fact, we’re going to the capital of Vienna to see a band that struck me as kinda’ fun when I was introduced to them. The band is called Rocquette and they combine the sleazy guitar tones of ‘80’s hard rock with the pseudo-punk female vocals of Blondie. I’m actually going against the title of this piece by telling you about another site filled with tons of unknown musicians. That site is called Musician Match and they do a marvelous job of pairing up musicians with other musicians in an effort to help these guys create their art.

Seit Jänner 2005 ist die Truppe rund um Barbie Hardrock in Österreich und Deutschland mit ihrer Show unterwegs. Fünf Rocker aus Leidenschaft, von denen man getrost behaupten darf, dass sie ihre Instrumente wirklich spielen anstatt sie zu misshandeln. Barbie Hardrock, Thomas M. Perry, Dojo, Freak und der vor kurzem zur Band gestoßene zweite Rhythmus-Gitarrist Ivan Pavlovic (Time For Pride) fegen gewaltig zwischen Classic- und Sleuze-Rock hin und her. Besonders live ist die Band eine wahre Wucht. Regelmäßige Konzerte in den letzten drei Jahren, darunter extravagante Shows wie bei der Abschluss-Gala des "First Drug Action and Chemical Biology" Kongress in der Kuppelhalle des Naturhistorischen Museums, machten die Band zu einem echten Live-Tornado.
Das fantastische Album "Too Fast For Love", bereits im Juni 2007 veröffenticht, ist bei unzähligen Fachhändlern in Österreich, Deutschland un der Schweiz und über amazon.de erhältlich. Weltweit ist das Teil auf cdbaby.co und digital auf iTunes zu bekommen. Jetzt suchen Rocquette dringend einen Manager, damit sich die Band wieder mehr auf die musikalische Seite konzentrieren kann. Sängerin Barbie über die Pläne für 2009: "Unser Ziel ist es natürlich, möglichst viele Konzerte zu spielen. Irgendwann davon leben zu können und sich voll und ganz der Musik widmen zu können. Riesige Bühneneffekte und Pyrotechnik wären da natürlich auch wichtig!"

Dall’Austria ci giunge un CD piuttosto interessante. Si tratta di “Too Fast for Love” dei Rocquette, band capitanata dalla “rockeuse” Melania. Il gruppo nasce nel 2005 e con un’intensa attività live riescono a farsi notare. Il CD è molto ben prodotto a segnalare l’invidiabile status professionale del gruppo. Il sound è molto vario e non può essere definito né rock né heavy metal. Si tratta, piuttosto, di un ibrido che pare abbia in Avril Lavigne, Aerosmith, Ac/Dc e Garbage i propri punti di riferimento. Pertanto, si tratta di un sound rock’n’roll che non dispiace e che francamente necessitiamo di sentire più spesso. I Rocquette sono un gruppo interessante che aspetto sulla distanza di nuove prove.

Die Mitglieder von ROCQUETTE aus Wien und Umgebung trafen erst Anfang letzten Jahres zusammen, um gemeinsam ihre musikalische Leidenschaft auszuleben, und schon wenige Woche später präsentierte man mit „Deltonic“ bereits das 13 Nummern umfassende Debutalbum.

Fünf Auszüge daraus liegen mir jetzt zur Begutachtung vor: Die Gruppe definiert ihr Tun als „Chewed Rock“, was schlicht und ergreifend bedeutet, dass beim Schaffen von Songs Einflüsse aus beinahe allen möglichen Stilrichtungen Gehör finden. Nun, ich würde mich trotzdem zu dem Statement hinreissen lassen, dass die vierköpfige Gruppe um Frontfrau Mel auch der Großfamilie Alternative Rock angehört. Zwar haben ROCQUETTE das Rad freilich auch nicht gänzlich neu erfunden bzw. das Genre gar revolutioniert, aber sie gaben sich merklich Mühe möglichst vielschichtige Songs zu kreieren: Während der Opener „Between“ beispielweise Erinnerungen an große Hits von ALANIS MORISSETTE und Co. wachruft, beginnt „Evoken“ hingegen angenehm balladesk, um sich danach zu einer hörenswerten Rockperle zu entwickeln. In Anbetracht der Tatsache, dass diese junge Band zum Zeitpunkt der Produktion eben erst wenige Wochen gemeinsam musizierte und somit kaum Zeit hatte, an den Stücken zu feilen, bin ich wirklich angetan vom Niveau des Songmaterials. „Christmas Vacation“ fährt schon zu Beginn heavy-neometallischen Dampfwalzenriffs auf, um danach in eine latent funkig bis punkige Mitgröhlhymne zu mutieren, und bei „Maybe“ baut die Gruppe mittels Laut-Leise-Dynamik geschickt Spannungsbögen auf, während beim rotzigen Rocker „Risin´ Up“ alle Trümpfe der Formation zum Zug kommen: Neometallisches Riffing, giffige Melodien, aber auch eine ordentliche Prise Funk, ehe man das Tempo in Richtung Punkrock steigert und gar mit mitreißenden Soli aufwarten kann.

Wenn auch noch nicht der große Wurf gelungen ist, stimmt der eingeschlagene Weg für diese Gruppe zweifelsohne, und die Songs können sich ohne Wenn und Aber hören lassen. Wenn sich diese Gruppe in einem ähnlichen rasanten Tempo weiterentwickelt, kann man sich aus dem Hause ROCQUETTE noch auf Einiges gefasst machen.
