"Raízes de Zanc"

Acontecendo...

As raízes de Rodrigo Zanc

“Começou a minha sina, não termina um só momento;
A viola é quem me toca, sou eu o seu instrumento.
Os meus dedos ela usa, pra construir a canção;
E retira o sentimento que tenho no coração.”
(Viola Enfeitiçada / Isaias Andrade e Rodrigo Zanc)

- Maribel Santos

Bio

The guitar player Rodrigo Zanc is from Araraquara, in the country side of the State of São Paulo, Brazil. Composer and interpreter with parents and grandparents born in a small farm, Rodrigo carries since a boy the influences of the country side life. When he was eight years old, his maternal grandfather, serenator, showed him a guitar for the first time. At the age of seventeen, he decided dedicate himself to the countrified guitar (Brasilian viola).
From now on there had been many influences…

Listening to interpretations of artists as Rolando Boldrin and Renato Teixeira really touched him. The countrified music with the vanguard guitar of Almir Sater, Paulo Freire, Robert Correia and others, touched his soul. Singing and playing, by the time, he developed his own style.
He professionally initiated his journey through the music in 1996. In 1999, He participated of the National Festival Band FM – Café Caboclo de Novos Talentos, conquering 2° place with a song of his authorship, starting to participate of many festivals and to act in the region studios.
In February of 2003, he participated of the program Caminhos da Roça, EPTV-GLOBO, presenting his compositions. Between 2003 and 2009, he made presentations in editions of the festival Viola de Todos os Cantos - EPTV, having disputed finals of 2005 in Poços de Caldas, MG and of 2007 in São Carlos, SP.

PENDENGA SPECTACLE

The musical spectacle called Pendenga, based on the homonym CD of the composer, guitar player and interpreter Rodrigo Zanc, places the Countrified Guitar as an instrument that evolves - and not only as representative of an era or specific niche - following the influences chronological order of the artist since the moment he knew the guitar.
The presentation interlaces Pendenga CD repertoire with songs of composers and famous interpreters of regional music, bringing in its bulge information of the past acting harmoniously in the present, serving as a messenger of two worlds, the agricultural and the urban one, lulling us with news of both sides.
The present days bring a common feeling to those who identify themselves with the guitar music: the heart bipartition. The country side man can already be in the second or third generation city dwellers, however, remains very uncomfortable in this big desert of steel and concrete, keeping the restrained desire of fondling the drizzle in moon nights in the sylvan retreats.
The spectacle has as proposal of contributing to revive values that make possible the recognition and the identification of the deep roots of the agricultural environment. Reaching the people who every day wake up with the clear impression that the country side represents the happiness, while the city, the stress.
Being agricultural and being urban. Taking a walk calmly on the dividing line of this misfortune…

PENDENGA CD

Pendenga is an authorial and independent CD of regional guitar music. It is an authentic work that values and rescues all the feelings, influences and impressions of a generation that transited between the country side and the city, the agricultural and the urban one. A musical recipe that mixes all the missing things that the country side reminds us of, added to the urban present and used elements that represent these two universes.
First fruit of almost 13 years of influences and research on the guitar and its vast universe, the Pendenga CD is composed by 12 unknown songs and a multimedia track. A simple record, exempt of labels and eased with trends and styles. It was totally conceived, produced and recorded in the country side of São Paulo, and counts on the participation of the great composer Isaias Andrade and the friends Fernando Mori and Murilo Romano. Some of these songs have been shown in festivals since 1999, and from its launching, Pendenga CD has been divulged in presentations carried through many units of circuit SESC-SP (country side and capital), in one of the regional stages of the Circuito Cultural Banco do Brasil - CCBB, as well as in events and parties promoted by the Culture Secretariats of some cities of São Paulo country side.
