Bio

Roger Chong is a York University graduate of music. While studying there, Chong served for two consecutive years as guitarist for the York University Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Time Warps founder and renowned jazz bassist Al Henderson. He was also mentored by jazz guitarists Roy Patterson, Mike Cado and other faculty members such as Matt Brubeck and Casey Sokol.

In 2004, Chong played guitar for Storm, an agency band dedicated to support visiting celebrities and artists from Hong Kong. Since then, Chong had performed as a solo act, as well as guitarist for his jazz combo and the funk band, DysFunktional. Venues he had performed in range from pubs to hotels, theatres and concert halls all over the GTA.

Inspired by such legends as George Benson, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, B. B. King, Jimmie Vaughan, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, Chong's influences are rooted deeply in the blues and jazz.

Today Chong works as an Instrumental Music Instructor with the Toronto Catholic District School Board, providing Instrumental music classes to Grade 6, 7, and 8 students. He also teaches as a guitar instructor in Markham. His spare time is split between leading his own jazz combo and serving as guitarist for jazz orchestras under the management of the Sheraton Cadwell Group. He is currently back at York University, in pursuit of a Bachelor of Education degree.
