"Roger, Roll"

Even though a new wave of shoegaze has been coursing languidly through the musical landscape, with the exception of Radiohead, it has never quite taken hold with the stereotypical mall-crawling, moneyed suburbanite crowd. Roger, Roll comes close to bridging that gap with driftily hypnotic songs and gently lilting cadences that sound like what Mojave 3 would be doing had it taken a step back toward its dream-pop origins rather than further evoking the spirit of the desert. Much of Roger, Roll's material conjures the sun streaming through the clouds after a mid-spring rainstorm and that ineffable sense of renewal. But there is also, in every song, the quiet intensity of ocean waves with emotional depths to match, resulting in solid pieces of heart-stirringly shimmering pop. On stage, the members of Roger, Roll (due at the Larimer Lounge this Tuesday, February 12) bring together a movingly contemplative energy with surprisingly incendiary moments. Anyone wondering about the future of indie music would do well to keep an eye on bands like Roger, Roll. - Westword

"Roger, Roll Rocks the Hi-Dive"

Denver garners one of the most prolific local music scenes west of the Mississippi. It is home to musicians and singers of all genres and styles. While this is usually a good thing, in some cases, great bands get overlooked. Such is the case with Roger, Roll. The four-piece band is a "solo operation turned team effort that somehow resembles the explosion of a star." As odd as the description sounds, it is surprisingly accurate. Sunday night at the hi-dive, Roger, Roll cranked out truly stellar tunes. Roger, Roll fuses complex guitar progressions with hypnotic basslines. Eric Peterson's vocals resonate with a depth and passion rarely found in such young bands. Lookout for Roger, Roll shows at local venues because this band is not one to miss. - The Clarion

Bio

It’s rare that when handed a demo of a friends local rock band that you are as blown away as by the songs represented here. Roger, Roll crafts rock music without a hint of pretension, something not seen a lot in today’s flooded indie rock market. The music of Roger, Roll flows from soft, melancholy ballads, to hope filled, rock rollercoasters, all tinted with just the right amount of tongue-in-cheek humor.
