Bio

Roger Silverberg grew up at one of the more opportune times for music. The AM radio dial in the 50s and 60s was alive with Rock ’n Roll, Country, Blues, Doo-Wop, Soul and styles that have (much) later been lumped into the broad Americana categories. It is hardly a surprise that bits and pieces of all these should be present in his songwriting and performing style.

Early favorites of Roger’s included Hank Williams, The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly – all musicians his dad, also a musician from a mid-western musical family, listened to and encouraged young Roger to practice. But the house was filled with many other records by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, the Mills Brothers, Glenn Miller Band, etc. Roger played those 78s and 45s and rapidly became curious about the variety of sounds out there. (The roots of his “music without boundaries” philosophy?)

Permanently relocating from Philadelphia to New York in 1982, Roger gravitated to the Greenwich Village scene and played everywhere from open mics and on the street to some of the venues that are still there on Bleeker Street. The change of locale inspired a wave of new songs, some of which Roger still puts into his set.

Now based in Huntington, Long Island, Roger began the most recent phase of his musical career in 1998 when he decided to share one of his newest songs at an open mic series put on by the Folk Music Society of Huntington. Indeed, since 1998, Roger has made making music top priority

Sketches & Footprints, released in July 2005, was Roger's first studio recording since 1981, and his first all-originals collection. Recording for Roger's latest, Major Seventh Heaven, was completed in late 2009 and mastered in mid-October 2010. It is available in limited quantities right now at his shows.

Roger performs both as a soloist and with a bass player & drummer/percussionist. That line-up is called The Roger Silverberg Trio. The current repertoire consists of approximately 40 originals and uncounted hundreds (thousands perhaps?) of songs that, because they often are “left field covers,” manage to surprise and delight audiences that span generations.

Roger Silverberg seeks performance opportunities nationwide.
