"HitZound Single Review"

Pop / Rock band Romance & Rebellion is equal to a good start! The American band drops an excellent debut single. The song is called MORE THAN FRIENDS and comes from their first EP "Romance & Rebellion". The band consists of David Laviola (vocals, guitar), Aaron Medina (guitar), Kyle Jordan Mueller (drums) and Brandon Davis (bass). The band managed to attract the attention of producer Stefan Litrownik. Not the first, the best, because he produced earlier for Andy Grammer and One Direction. Romance & Rebellion are you going to hear more. Their debut single, MORE THAN FRIENDS check here at Hitzound. -

"Song Of The Week - Raz Mataz!"

Romance and Rebellion brings you back to the golden era of pop-rock with their latest, “More Than Friends”.

The song’s driving drums and sweet harmonies are a nice contrast to the hard-edged guitars and a surprising growl of a vocal at certain spots. -

"Skope Mag - Single Review Feature"

Pop/Rock band Romance & Rebellion video of their new single “More Than Friends” off their debut self-titled EP released June 3rd, 2016.

“More Than Friends” is a foot-stomping, radio ready pop masterpiece. Their pop-rock infused sound begins with the subtle strum of an acoustic guitar and explodes in an all-out infectious party chorus. Between the truthful and introspective verses and the sizzling emotions breaking through their layered harmonies, they tell the story of unrequited love and impending frustrations. A single made for the summer, “More Than Friends” is a zesty exploration of feel good vibes and youthful emotional turbulence.

The quartet, comprised of David LaViola (Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar), Aaron Medina (Lead Guitar, Harmony Vocals), Kyle Jordan Mueller (Drums), and Brandon Davis (Bass, Harmony Vocals), have crafted a unique and noteworthy power pop sound. After capturing the attention of famed producer Stefan Litrownik (Andy Grammer, One Direction), they began work on their debut EP, a project that would produce the addictive, beat driven single, “More Than Friends.” -

"The Perfect Scene - Romance & Rebellion - EP Review"

Romance and rebellion. They’re harder to deal with than the chill version of R&R, but – juxtaposed or otherwise – often more rewarding. Listening to Romance & Rebellion is a nice happy medium, as displayed by their self-titled debut EP which came out last week. The Los Angeles-based pop rockers dish out equal doses of rock and sweetness across six catchy tracks.

Romance & Rebellion opens with “The Next Best Thing”, which introduces itself with clap-worthy drums reminiscent of the 60s. An overall upbeat, driving sound is punctuated nicely by a solo that duels itself in the latter half. Up next is “Vanity Fair”, which features a descending keyboard riff. The feel-good track praises the subject for her awesomeness, and includes chorus gang vocals that seem oddly placed but still work nicely (because who doesn’t love a good “HEY!” right?). “The James Hotel” follows with a solid blast of indie rock, picking up the pace again for a raw, almost lo-fi effort that I’d say is my favourite on the EP.

The second half of Romance & Rebellion starts with unabashed ballad “Empty Space”. Lamenting a breakup happens over a stripped-down sound that’s driven (using that term loosely I suppose?) by drums. Debut single “More Than Friends” revives the tempo afterwards, featuring really simple-but-awesome guitars that make nice use of octave chords and high notes. The one-sided love song features my favourite line: “I’d rather live alone than die in the friend zone”. Finally, “Thanks For The Memories” wraps up the EP with acoustic guitar and a string section (!). The song itself reminisces, and fittingly it works to do that for the entire effort as an ideal closer.

Self-titled releases are most often debuts because they simply introduce us to the artist. That said, we now know Romance & Rebellion for their beautifully sheened pop rock that lends itself to both power and melody. The tempo alternates song by song, and frontman David LaViola’s vocals beautifully work the upper register throughout. Noted producer Stefan Litrownik also helped ensure an overall solid debut from the four-piece, an easy sonic ride that’s more carousel than rollercoaster.Romance and rebellion. Bio

"We all came to LA looking for something...what we found was each other." - David LaViola

All American Pop-Rockers Romance & Rebellion are the product of four individuals believing that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Brought together by Manifest Destiny and unified under the principle that the song is king, songwriter David LaViola (Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar), Aaron Medina (Lead Guitar, Harmony Vocals), Kyle Jordan Mueller (Drums), and Brandon Davis (Bass, Harmony Vocals) formed the quartet in late 2015.

"Money and fame are great motivators, but when the songs are great...man, that's all you need.” - Aaron Medina

The hipster haven of Echo Park served well to foster the band's blossoming talents in the early stages.  Working to perfect their sound at weekly Bedrock Studio rehearsals, cutting their teeth on stages up and down Sunset Blvd., and late-night strategy session talks served to fuel an already burning desire for greatness. By the end of that year R&R had created buzzworthy word of mouth status through social media platforms and compelling live performances. It wasn't long before their music caught the attention of veteran pop producer Stefan Litrownik (Andy Grammer, One Direction).

Their debut self-titled EP, slated for a June 2016 release, has the band teaming up with the pop Maestro to create six infectious, guitar-driven, tear-your-heart-out pop tracks about burgeoning love, love loss, and infedelious exes. Drawing inspiration from a wealth of creative influences ranging from the vintage (Beatles, Sam Cooke, Beach Boys, Rolling Stones) to the modern (Weezer, Panic! At The Disco, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars), the not-so-garage band has made a record that is assured to make soundwaves in the coming year, and for years to come.

R&R fans have described their sound as modern vintage, an edgy twist of modern rock and 50's pop culture that conjures up the stacks of vinyl your dad passed down to you. Raw emotionally charged lyrics and vocal harmonies meet a modern day pop-rock treatment. With a heavy-handed "Billboard Hot 100” attention to detail, the music isn't the only thing these boys have tailored to perfection. They look the part, with an accute awareness of trendy style reminiscent of an American Apparel ad. 2016 is shaping up to be a very exciting year for these gentleman. Having just released their debut single/video "More Than Friends", and gearing up to release their debut EP all within the first 6 months;  the band’s relentless efforts are already setting them apart, with no signs of slowing down. After the anticipated release of the band’s EP in June 2016, Romance & Rebellion have plans to take the show on the road and tour the record before returning to the studio to produce their first full length album. Pop has a new sound, and that sound is Romance & Rebellion.
