VOCAL DRAMA
An ensemble to embrace with all senses!
A vocal ensemble not only singing but also acting out the music; moulding voices that burst the traditions of choir music – this is the Romeo & Juliet Choir.

The Romeo & Julia Kören was formed in 1991 in order to perform the musical interludes in the Royal Dramatic Theatre-production of Romeo and Juliet. Pretty soon the choir started to live its own life, giving concerts with a swithering and imaginative mixture of song, dance and theatre. Visual music. Sprung from the world of theatre the choir has concentrated on the early music ideal where the music and the stage drama often acted as one.

A concert with the Romeo & Julia Kören is therefore as much a musical as a visual experience. Vocal drama if you wish. The span is large and whether it concerns Italian renaissance, courtly French baroque, Slavic liturgical songs or frivolous folk songs the dramatic action is as important as the vocal accuracy. The music widens and embraces the audience in a weave of magical tableauxs – from soothing love complaints and raw burlesque comedy to airy light lines of melody.
