Bio

Ronda Johannessen has a very distinct musical style. Her traditional references musically and lyrically are poetic acts in themselves, and her unique takes on classical themes take music and ideas in the foward motion of progress. Ronda's performances range from full rock-outs and avant garde dramatizations to sobering journey's through blatant lyrics and visceral vocals.
In the early nineties Ronda introduced Nirvana's Smells like Teen Spirit as the number one video on MTV, She has been interviewed by Jon Stewart, and played the side stage at Lalapalooza '96. Her songs The Piercing Song, The Piss Song, Bass, The Apocalypse Song, Kon Chik Kso were all lower east side hits in 1990's New York City. She has appeared with Illness and on their Chromium Dub album, her performances are documented in Mike ILL's Anti-Folk Road manual, and has shared the stage with Perry Robinson (jamming on her song Your Heroine). Ronda is the Folk artist punks will play shows with and the Punk that adds edgy intelligence to country folk bluegrass situations. She sang back up for Ari-up/The Slits 2002/3 while finishing her BA at Goddard College in 2003.
Since, Ronda has traveled America, Vermont, the southwest, spent a year in Texas, some time in New Orleans and is now back in the New York area bringing her new material home, working on a variety of art projects, gigging and working on making her music accessible.
