"Complex - Stylin' on You: Top Ten Rap Battle Moments"

Best line: "Sonic The Hedgehog/You can't fuck with me dog/So do what you do best and roll up into a ball." (Rone)
Complex says: When Charles Hamilton had his ass handed to him after foolishly challenging Serius Jones to an improv battle at SOBs two months before this, it was definitely a FAIL. However, we couldn't fault Charles all that much since Serius Jones is, if nothing else, a dope-ass battle rapper who has given the business to some of the best. But when Charles Hamilton lost to this random fan during a cypher at PSU, it was a complete embarrassment. Especially because Hamilton arrogantly doesn't even try too hard even though the cameras are obviously rolling. First Sticky Fingaz, now this? Streets is watching, doggie! - Complex

The homie Dice Raw pointed me in the direction of one of an artists on his Raw Life imprint by the name of Rone. If you’re a fan of those Grind Time battle rap youtube vids, you may recognize him from there. Rone has a new record coming soon, 200 Miles to Philadelphia, produced by Ritz Reynolds (who has produced many songs for The Roots and The Roots extended fam over the years). For now, watch Rone go in over Hudson Mohawke‘s “Cbat” aka the theme song from Workaholics (one of the funniest shows on TV right now). - Okayplayer

"DJBooth.net - Rone - Giving My Love"

Attention, shoppers: Booth newcomer Rone (not to be confused with Booth regular Rome) is “giving his lovin’ away,“ at rock-bottom prices, and supplies are going fast. Single number two off his forthcoming full-length, Giving My Love sees the Philly up-and-comer reflecting dolefully on relationship woes over a soulfully downbeat, keyboard-driven instrumental by Rick Friedrich (whose production and engineering was recently heard on The Roots’ undun LP). In an engaging, sung-rapped flow somewhat reminiscent of Booth favorite Outasight, Rone describes how his girl’s infidelity drove him to do a little philandering of his own. Two wrongs, however, don’t add up to a right, and the emcee’s dalliances only leave him lonely and jaded. On the back, he offers a cynical summary of modern romance: “Different girls, but it’s all the same sequence / circle each other and look for a weakness.” Has this downbeat yet catchy selection left your interest piqued? More eclectically fresh tunes await on debut full-length The First Story, coming soon via Dice Raw‘s Raw Life label. - DJBooth.net

"ALLHIPHOP.com - EXCLUSIVE: Philly Battle Rapper Rone Drops “The First Story”; Schools Canibus on How To Recover From His Wack Battling"

2012 is the year of Philadelphia. From world-renowned names and festivals (think Jigga and “Made In America”) to the hottest and most controversial, young rapper out right now (think Meek Mill), all eyes are on the City of Brotherly Love this year.

AllHipHop.com’s spotlight has been shining on the city for months now, and what we’ve found is that beyond the big names and the pricey shows, there are some great MCs on the come up in Philly.

Case in point is a battle MC named Rone. Fans of the battle circuit and even the Charles Hamilton Clique a few years back will remember Rone as the guy who challenged anyone to step to him. And he was serious – with good reason. Rone is a multi-win Grind Time battle champ, and has slayed quite a few lyrical dragons in his day.

We caught up with Rone just yesterday at the legendary Larry Gold Studios in Philadelphia as he prepared for his album release. - AllHipHop.com

Bio

Rone is a Philly native that jumped onto the music by freestyling Charles Hamilton into retirement. After getting a taste for hip hop battles, Rone continued to cut his teeth and build a loyal fan-base through his involvement in the rap-battle circuit. He emerged as a standout performer on Grindtime and KOTD, to name a few. He has since proven himself as an ever-developing, well-rounded talent whose songwriting chops match seamlessly with his sharp-witted raps and smooth crooning.

Rone's debut album "The First Story" was released Tuesday, June 19th via indie-label Raw Life and peaked at #29 on iTunes Hip-Hop chart. The First Story is Rone's first full length effort. Executive produced by Rone and Dice Raw, each song was built from scratch by some of Philadelphia's most talented producers including Rick Friedrich (credited producer of The Roots' Grammy-nominated "How I Got Over" album), Ritz Reynolds (Producer for Mac Miller, The Roots, OCD: Moosh & Twist, etc.), Khari Mateen (The Roots, J*Davey) and more who work with the Raw Life label.
