"Through The Arch (from darkness to light)"

If anyone wondered if Ron Hendee could sing, they'd best get this new CD. Ron is a Best of the Blues Award-winning trumpet player, but he's not as well known for his work as a songwriter or singer. I'm sure that many national artists would have loved to have written some of Ron's songs first, but they came from Ron's life. As a result, he's had the advantage of saying it all in song before, and better than anyone. His originals include "It Works If You Work It", "Monkey Hips" (instrumental), "Sweet Sixteen" (from a father's perspective in today's society), "My Little Boogaloo" (written by Ron for Eden Brent), "Pass It On", and "You're Just Mean". In addition to these solid originals, Ron includes classics like "Statesboro Blues", "The Thrill Is Gone", "Who Is He And What Is He To You?", and "Kissing My Love". Ron has performed professionally since age fourteen in a career that has included Kansas City and Seattle. He has appeared on stage with The Tommy Castro Band, Marcia Ball, Bernard Allison, Elvin Bishop, Dr. John, Eden Brent, and local bands like The Randy Oxford Band, Bill Mattocks Band, Polly O'Keary & The Rhythm Method, and The "Red Hot" Blues Sisters. With his own band, Ron will make sure that the blues, jazz, funk, rock, and soul roots of his music will be front and center as he holds a trumpet but also a vocal microphone. Artists joining Ron on this CD are Michael Rogers (courtesy of John Lee Hooker, Jr. and Steppin' Stone Records) on drums, Blues Music Award piano winner Eden Brent (courtesy of Yellow Dog Records), the Best Of The Blues Award-winning Scotty Harris (bass/saxes), the Best Of The Blues Award-winning Lissa Ramaglia (bass/background vocals), International bassist Darryl "Funky Z" Fields (bass), and Doug Kearney (guitars). Recorded at Fastback Studios with Jason Lackie at the controls. This adventuresome project was mastered in Bellevue, Washington by Black Belt Mastering, and packaged by Lynnwood, Washington's Studio North, with Ron Hendee and Frank "Hot Rod" Holman designing the graphics.

Bio

A native of Wichita, Kansas, Ron Hendee has been playing trumpet professionally since age fourteen. He has been a student of jazz and blues since age twelve. Ron loves soul and blues music and has been influenced by such greats as Ray Charles, Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Stevie Wonder, etc. Ron began his jazz studies under the direction of Clifford Sproul and Robert Austin at age thirteen and performed in the All City Junior High and All City High School stage bands, in Wichita. After moving to Washington state he was the featured trumpet soloist in his high school stage band. The day after high school graduation, Ron opted to go on the road with a northwest touring band, foregoing a college scholarship. He was a featured trumpet soloist with many northwest groups before entering into the Air Force Band where, once again, he was the featured trumpet/vocal soloist in the jazz band. In 1996, Ron was one of the featured worship vocalists in his church. He had joined a local rock group and sang lead/background vocals. Ron has an uncanny talent for harmonies which makes him a known commodity in the Washington Blues Society performing with many different bands. He has studied music theory, in college, which allows him to write and arrange music. Ron has worked his way up through the ranks and has shared the stage with Tommy Castro, Eden Brent, Bernard Allison, Marcia Ball, Elvin Bishop, Chico Banks, Jimmy Thackary, and Dr. John. In 2011, Ron was hired by the Legendary Blues Cruise to run two Jamaramas. The Blues Cruise has been a networking tool that has helped Ron to make many connections with some of the worlds great blues artists. Ron was recently hired again to run jams on the Legendary Blues Cruise for October 2012.
