Bio

Named after a fictional Irish Mobster and a variety pack of beer, Rooney and the Minglers is four young lads that write and play post-Rock songs in Victoria, BC. Composed of Evan MacRae, Connor Munro, Tim Wilkinson, and Zak Zawaduk, the band formed in early 2009. MacRae, Munro, and Zawaduk swap guitars and bass when writing and performing, while Wilkinson sustains the rhythm. In mid-2009, the band recorded their first album, The Electric Quartet, engineered and produced by Danny Costello. Described as 'eclectic', 'post-rock', and 'ambient', the album was a hit on local campus radio. The band performed throughout 2009 and 2010 in support of the record, developing a tighter sound and a more intimate understanding of each others' playing styles. With new material written between performances, the band began recording their second album in early summer of 2010, with Costello again producing. While Munro participated in a university exchange in the fall, the rest of the band focused on production. Featuring new and varied instruments, a heavier sound, and a narrative cohesiveness not found on the first release, Run Rooney, Run! has been described as a collection of 'sonic narratives', rich with layers and packed with punch. Embracing online sharing, the band released the album in February of 2010 through Bandcamp, hoping to reach as many fans and new listeners as possible. Focused on connecting with other artists in the community, the band has been an integral presence at events hosted by the Warren Undergraduate Review, a Victoria-based collective aimed at developing a vibrant, local arts culture. Lately, the band has focused on performing in its hometown of Victoria, spreading the word about their record, connecting with other local bands, and writing new songs.
