"pairadime presents: Roosh Williams - Attack of the Drobots (Mixtape)"

Here we have Roosh Williams, a 21 year old MC hailing from Houston (Space City as he refers to it) that is on his academic grind in Austin at UT, better known on the mic as Roosh Williams. Roosh has been doing this for a long time back in Houston and now in Austin, and he has just put together a debut mixtape called Attack of The Drobots. Dan and I were put on to Roosh last year by our mutual friend Camron when he came over and played a couple songs Roosh had recorded. Cam knew we loved Hip-Hop, so he thought we would dig his friend. He kind of downplayed it, so either he underestimated his friend or we weren’t quite ready for what we were about to hear, but one thing was for sure, Roosh could spit. I mean, this dude has wordplay and can go over almost any beat you throw at him. Not to mention, dude goes off the top with the best of them. Seriously. Needless to say, we were hooked.

One thing you’ll notice about Roosh is his unique sound. He said his influences include “Eminem, Lupe Fiasco, Outkast, JayZ, BoB, Royce Da 5’9, Mos Def, KiD CuDi, Busta Rhymes, Chamillionaire, Drake, Kanye, Ludacris, and Atmosphere among others.” That’s a pretty good mix of different sounds that all bring something special to hip-hop, and Roosh does a good job of bringing out his own sound with traces of these origins. It’s very evident in his rhyme schemes and metaphors that he is a very intelligent dude and has an extensive vocabulary at his disposal. He even raps about planning to go to law school; if that’s not a first for a rapper then I don’t know what is. Take note of his creative wordplay because every now and then, you’ll want to rewind the track to make sure you heard what you did. There is no doubt about the talent this guy has, and what’s crazy is he is only 20 years old.

We were lucky enough to link up with him and help present the launch of his mixtape, Attack of The Drobots. What a great title. I mean, really, what a GREAT title. It should be pretty obvious to you what it means, but just in case it isn’t, it more or less is Roosh’s expression of his belief to live a life above the negative connotation that comes with the Dro inhibiting anyone’s lifestyle. It is more than possible to stay on your grind while doing your thing, and Roosh exemplifies that in spades on this tape. This is a mixtape that he spent a lot of time crafting and putting together in order to have a proper coming out party, and I don’t think he could have done a better job. It is loaded with clever metaphors, spot-on sports references, a slight appreciation for the green (understatement of the year), and tons of energy. That is the most evident thing in Roosh’s tracks; he always attacks the beat and does a great job of switching up his flow and pitch in order to bring out his own, unique sound on the beat. There is nothing but fire on this tape that is loaded with 25 bangers. He says he couldn’t have done it without his boys Kyle Hubbard and Rob. These two were featured on the dope song “Mooncruise (Back To The Future)” and Rob is responsible for the mixing and editing of the tape. This is a testament to the loyalty he has not only for his friends, but for his city. Roosh reps Houston, best believe that. I really urge you all to give this tape a try. It should be noted also that he did this all in a closet and it’s still one of the more thorough tapes I’ve had the pleasure listening to.

Some highlights I enjoyed about it were him going over multiple Ratatat beats, doing absolute justice to KanYe’s “Amazing”, and a hell of a job going over unorthodox beats like “Butterfly” from Crazy Town and “Hollaback” from Gwen Stefani. There are shoutouts to Texas and Oklahoma all over this tape as well. It’s also cool to hear him reference his classes and how he is dominating school (3.75 GPA!). He will surprise you how catchy he is on the hooks and then blow you away with pure lyricism. It’s great to see someone have fun with music and be intelligent about it also. He can mix in a story or two from time to time as well, so make sure to pay attention to an up and coming MC that is definitely Pairadime Approved and Affiliated. Bio

I'm a 21 year old graduating senior at the University of Texas who, as of now, plans on heading to law school post-graduation (a rapper going to law school? not what you'd expect, I know). I rap about anything from my everyday life and opinions to punchline heavy anthems to storytelling, and I like to spin it all with my own unique sense of humor. In addition to my lyrical content and delivery being surprisingly refreshing, I choose different (but good) sounding beats as well. I enjoy spitting over beats with samples from all different genres, and my audience has consistently responded well to this. Even Warner Brothers recording artist XV commended my beat selection when I opened for him in Oklahoma City this past August.
