Rosborough

We had heard of Glenn Rosborough through our Derry co-op but it was only this evening that we had the chance to see him play in the flesh. It was also his first night playing The Ruby Sessions, and hopefully it is the first of many. From the taut dalliance of the guitar ‘Someone Good’ was strummed into life. The worthwhile intention on stage was concentrated within the lyrics and incredibly apparent. This sat well with the fragile quality imparted from his vocals and it seemed to effortlessly tease an additional quality through at the same time. The coarse quality he can call upon draws something specific with ‘Another Lesson’. Yet he leaned into the workings of it and it pushes the reserved manner of the dynamic that little bit further. How it all breaks down is the key to how it evidently comes to life before your very eyes.

Taking inspiration from the situational concept of being an atheist at a funeral gives ‘One By One’ it’s starting point. The track itself has an eloquent touch which suits the sombre tone. As such a light Cohen-esque quality prevails. He also commands a comfortable sense of composure in the reflection of the moment the delivery calls out. This proves to be a romanticism that is industrious as much as it is diligent. Retaining a grasp on the ethereal is his final number ‘Burn Blue’. Again his grasp of the passive tidings helps to steadily build everything. It also lands something specific in the stray notations which further give it more pull. It is a remarkable trait and one which connected easily with the audience to see him close out on a high. - Unsigned And Independent
