I have been in and out of bands since the 80’s. I write and make compilations of my songs, for my fans. My influences were Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Traffic, Santana, Joni Mitchell, Paul Winter, as well as world music. I also love jazz; modern and cool.
I “play out” by playing at various “local” venues from Telluride, Colorado, to Moab, Utah; Grand Junction to Cortez. ( I live in the center of these areas, in the little town of Bedrock ). Usually I perform my new material live on KOTO or KZMU radio, where I am always welcomed by the DJs because they know the listeners like to hear what I’m up to. We usually get good feedback. I’ve also had my discs put into rotation (during the night, when DJs aren’t live).
My sound is probably unique because of my exposure to folk dancing records…weird Eastern European harmonies and beautiful Isreali melodies. My jazz mentor in Grand Junction says I’ve showed him a whole” new way to look at harmonics”.
Succinct description? One L.A. producer called my music “soul music”, but not in the traditional sense, but more in a heart felt sense. “Desert Jazz” or “personal listening music” have also been used to describe my music.

About “ Slickrock Walking”: “Truly talented, with so much soul”, Susan Osborn; Paul Winter Consort.

About “Cowboys and Angels”: “A true original voice…these songs have a backdrop of some sort of modern visionquest which appeals to me”. Jack Gallop, instrumentalist for the London Symphony Orchestra on the Lee Johnson projects (98-02). “rising up from my bed with a new frame of mind” has got to be one of the most life-affirming lyrics I’ve heard in years …”

Sounds like : Rose’s voice and style have been compared to Pheobe Snow, Kathy Mattea, and recently, after hearing the “Wild Ones” show; J.J.Cale meets Nancy Sinatra (must have been the boots!).

Artist’s Statement (Musical Mission): To heal with audio, and to have fun!
Desert Jazz Music Project’s mission statement : to bring people together over geographical distances, in loose collaborations, in order for musical bands to form and perform when they might not have otherwise. To encourage art, to encourage people to play instruments, to encourage wildness, expansion, potential.

“Doing leads to more doing”. Rose currently has two more albums of music to record.

Performing live on local radio stations, as part of many regional festivals, and working in the schools with children has earned her six ASCAP-Plus awards.
