"Bounce-Worthy: RoseMary Fiki"

Female soul singers seem to be ten a penny nowadays. In fact, it seems there is a new lady on the block almost daily, thanks to the rising profile of soul music in general. Sorting the wheat from the chaff is not always easy, but we may have struck gold with Philly songstress RoseMary Fiki. After slogging it out trying to become the "next big thing," attending any and every audition she could make it to, RoseMary hit a bit of a rough patch after getting knock back after knock back. However, the feisty singer refused to let these dark times ruin her dreams and, after meeting a handful of like-minded collaborators, got her career back on path with the result being her self-titled EP, released in the second half of last year. After listening to the EP in its entirety, it's clear RoseMary draws influences from many musical styles, from R&B and soul, to funk, rock and acoustic, there is a little something for everyone, whilE still sounding cohesive. Take "Ooh," with its Aretha Franklin-inspired delivery, or "Official," the smooth, mid-tempo first single produced by Benny Blanco, both of which showcase RoseMary's impressive vocal skills and bring to mind fellow singers such YahZarah or Choklate. Take a listen to "Ooh" below and "It's Official" after the bounce (both of which are available free via Soundcloud), and if you like what you hear check out the rest of the 10-track EP on iTunes. - SoulBounce

"GET TO KNOW ROSEMARY FIKI"

Philly based Rosemary Fiki has got us under a spell with her passionate delivery and crisp vocals that remind us a bit of Noelle Scaggs. She quietly released her Rosemary Fiki EP in August from which you can find two tracks for stream and download below.

Thanks to SoulBounce for putting her on our radar. - Giant Step

"New Artist: “The Rosemary Fiki EP” x Rosemary Fiki"

Now here’s an artist with some soulful new music
you should add to your regular rotation; Rosemary Fiki.
But, there’s no description we can offer to adequately define her sound. You’ll have to come to your own opinion of what best describes this talented vocalist by listening to the texture of her voice, and the effortless, melodic synergy created when combined with the soulful pop-rock musical production on her eponymous EP, “The Rosemary Fiki EP”.
A stand out cut that deserves top billing in your iTunes playlist?
Try “Ooh”, which you can download on iTunes here.
Go ahead give it a spin in the Soundcloud player below, and thank us later… - Vibe Vixen

"POP-ROCK JAM OOH! BY UP-AND-COMMER ROSEMARY FIKI"

Sometimes you just need a catchy little song, with a fun, singable hook that makes you feel nice, about something nice. I think we've found that track with "Ooh!" from Rosemary Fiki. She's pretty rad, and we're feeling the production from Karl Hicks. Give it a listen and bop that head! Go on, bop it! - AFROPUNK

"Rosemary Fiki brings Afro-pop to Art Sanctuary"

Rosemary Fiki of Philly is turning heads with her rocking Afro-pop sound, so much so that she was designated a Vibe Vixen in the magazine of the same name in the spring.

That’s Vibe Vixen, not video vixen.

“A ‘vixen’ is a word like diva, which has gone on to mean a woman who is strong and talented and has a super ego,” Fiki says. “A vixen back in the day was someone who was over sexualized, a Playboy pinup. Now, a vixen is a woman who’s out there, doing it.”

“My team comes from all different backgrounds,” says Fiki, who is of Nigerian descent. “There’s hip-hop, rock, acoustic sounds, it all comes together. … That’s what you hear on the EP.”

Karl Hicks, late of the city hip-hop group Schoolz of Thought, is the producer and musical director for Fiki’s band. The guys are also gaining notice in the Afro-punk scene.

“In Afro-punk there is so many types of people who are into punk rock, rock, Goth, hip-hop — it’s people who are different coming together,” Fiki says. “They love music and they’re open to being original.”

Fiki and her crew are working on a new EP, which will be released this spring. Up next is a show this Friday at Art Sanctuary with Latriece Branson, along with a showing of the photographs of Erinn Cosby, Bill Cosby’s daughter.
