Biography

Rosie Catalano is a Sydney-based singer-songwriter whose lyrics balance bittersweet nostalgia with playful humour to create vivid, cinematic songs.

Rosie embarked on a solo career following her 2009 collaboration with Little Birdy and has since crowdfunded her independent self-titled debut EP which went on to recieve critical success, making its way on to Triple J’s playlist and selected as ABC Radio National’s ‘Album of the Week’.

Produced and arranged by Miss Little’s Sarah McCallum, Rosie’s EP features a stellar line-up of guest musicians including Terepai Richmond (The Whitlams, Missy Higgins), Neal Sutherland (Bertie Blackman) and Brian Campeau (The Rescue Ships).

A compulsive raconteur, Rosie came to music through her writing. 20 Million Dollars

Written By: Rosie Catalano

She said,

"I went to the psychiatrist and he told me I was mad.
I'm not mad, I've just got to win 20 million dollars."

20 million dollars solves everything in this day and age,
even our rotten brains. And I can see a rainbow of green, red, and yellow I want to dive in

Cos I'm 20 million dollars short of sanity
20 million dollars short of happiness
20 million dollars short of fame
20 million dollars short of love

I'm close with the barmaids
I've lost all my friends
I can smell the smell of money

I forget what my kids look like
In the daylight
But I got them a casino novelty pen

And the screen it shines like candy
It sings me a sweet lullaby
"Your future looks bright if you continue to play
Now listen to what I have to say..."

First go
Too slow
Next go
Bingo
Breathe in
Breathe out
Heart is
Racing
Next go
Hello
My friend
Pharaoh
Lend me
A dime
Promise
This time

I'm 20 million dollars short of sanity
20 million dollars short of happiness
20 million dollars short of fame
20 million dollars short of love

Icicles

Written By: Rosie Catalano

I saw your fingertips
Turn into icicles
It was a cold July
And I held your hand in mine

We smoked winter cigars
They were made of cold air
You kept breathing out
Till you got dizzy like me

It never snows in Sydney
But it sure felt like it could
With our robin-coloured cheeks
And the white frost in our lungs

You know what they say
About warm hands
We had the sun in our hearts
And we still do

And you mean the world to me
And you deserve the world
And you mean the world to world, I know
Cos you mean the world to me

And with the end of the year
Comes the smoke and the fire
We never burnt down
Even though the houses did

We witnessed many things
Like the death of icecream
As it melted to the ground
In a multi-coloured stream

And the seagulls they fought
Over our hot chips
We named one Henry-Lee
He only had one leg

We heard the same song on repeat
It got caught in our heads
And the only line I know
Was the one that meant that

You mean the world to me
And you deserve the world
And you mean the world to world, I know
Cos you mean the world to me
