Ross Campbell

BandR&BAlternative

Ross Campbell is a well-seasoned singer-songwriter who performs eclectic roots-based original material and a few Cohen/Dylan/Beatles covers, often with novel arrangements, as well as several swing standards such as O Lady Be Good, Centrepiece, It's A Sin To Tell A Lie, Undecided, etc.

Biography

Ross was a founding partner of the ground-breaking Canadian swing trio Fat Chants during the 80s. He toured northern Europe with Low Commotion, a 4-piece roots band, 3 times from 1993-97. They played the Openlucht Theatre in Vondelpark, Amsterdam, won 2nd prize at the Leiden Street Performers' Festival (De Gouden Pet), 3rd prize at the Haarlem Festival, performed with mad canajun artiste Tipi Agogo at the Ghentsefeesten, as well as playing dozens of small gigs throughout Holland and Belgium. Ross often plays as a single these days, more from economics than choice, but also excels as a soloist on soprano sax with local blues and r&b bands in the Edmonton area.

Lyrics

Dance On The Breeze

Written By: Ross Campbell & Judy Gatto

It’s the particular way you move your hands when you’re talking to me
It’s the magical glint in your blue eyes when you smile
It’s your articulate mind and the way you look when you’re in a book
It’s the wonderful way that you let life happen
It’s the affectionate touch of your hand on my arm of an evening
Your ephemeral glance and your quick wit that give me this feeling
Your elegant feet and the way they move when you’re in a groove
It’s the wonderful way that you let life happen
(while we’re making other plans)
The wonderful way that you let life happen
(Chor)
You’re the reason I breathe, You are the reason I can dance on the breeze
It’s you who I want to please, You are the only reason that I can dance on the breeze

II
It’s your rhythmical phrase and your straight-on gaze when you’re telling a joke
It’s your generous soul when you host your friends, or when you give me a stroke
The way you accept certain things about me that I can’t change
It’s the wonderful way that you let life happen
It’s the far away look that you get in your eye when you talk about Spain
Your lyrical heart and that Gypsy cry and your steel-trap brain
The musical note that you give your voice when you’re having a laugh
It’s your “doctor whistle” when you’re by yourself, running a bath

(Chor)
You’re the reason I breathe, You are the reason I can dance on the breeze
It’s you who I want to please, You are the only reason that I can dance on the breeze

III
An olive a day keeps the doctor away—so you said to me
You taught me the Mediterranean way (that’s where we’d like to be)
Life for me began anew when I met you
One ripe olive at a time
One ripe olive at a time
Chor
You’re the reason I breathe, You are the reason I can dance on the breeze
It’s you who I want to please, You are the only reason, you are the only reason . . .
You’re the reason I breathe, You are the reason I can dance on the breeze
It’s you who I want to please, You are the only reason that I can dance on the breeze
