My influences range from Dinah Washington and Billie Holliday to Chrissie Hynde and Eva Cassidy. I try to do standards in a fresh way; my repertoire includes original songs by classic songwriters like Mercer and Carmichael as well as Mose Allison and Bob Dylan.
Some say my music is hard to categorize, because I was born in the South but lived in New York for most of my adult life. For me, it's all about joy, pain, soul -- and believing what I'm singing! My original music ("Garden of Love," Orchard) runs from pop and blues influences to rock and country roots.
