"John Helm Radio Host Review"

My name is John Helm – I’m the host of Morning Rocks at Mountain FM in Castlegar BC. I’m writing to express my feelings regarding an up and coming band in town called Roy Has Fire. The group is comprised of four young men – two of whom are still in high school – but you wouldn’t know it from the music! You would, however, know it to see it – as the boys are still sporting baby faces! Frankly, they’ve reminded me just how silly you can make yourself feel in judging a book by its cover…but damn is it even more impressive if you do pigeon hole these teenagers. Once they plug in and begin to play it is very apparent that they mean business and they are going places. -

"Roy Has Fire headlines free concert in Castlegar"

When Roy has Fire took the stage, the strikingly mature voice of Mateo Villa shocked some in the audience. The band opened with a classic, "Come Together" by the Beatles, before launching into some Creedence Clearwater Revival that highlighted the amazing range and soul of the young man. The band members clearly enjoy performing together and their years of experience were on display as they rocked the old theatre. - Castlegar News

Bio

Roy Has Fire was formed in 2007 when James Villa ( Guitar and Vocals)  met guitarist Oliver Bean at a Rock N Roll boot camp. They had instant chemistry and immediately started writing  songs together. They soon enlisted the talents of James' younger brother Mateo to sing and play bass and wasted no time booking their first gig. All of a sudden they needed a drummer, and quick. They contacted former boot camp attendee  Derek Monson and with less than a week before their first show they got together and learned 25 songs. The four members continue to write together and perform dozens of live shows of all shapes and sizes each year. During the winter of 2013 RHF hit the recording studio to start work on their self titled debut album due out for summer 2014.

JAMES VILLA.    Guitar and Vocals.

James taught himself to play several instruments around the family home before finally settling in on the guitar at the age of 12. He was self taught until enrolling in music school which he still currently attends.

OLIVER BEAN   Guitar.

Oliver comes from musical parents and has been playing guitar since he joined  rock and roll boot camp at the age of 12.

MATEO VILLA    Vocals and Bass

Mateo pretty well started singing the day he was born. He could carry a song at early age. When he turned 11 Mateo was encouraged by his older brother James to not only sing in the band but to pick up the bass and start playing an instrument as well. Within a year Mateo was fully involved in the song writing process.

 DEREK MONSON       Drums

Derek started playing drums when at the age of 8 he found himself alone in a room with a kit and just couldnt couldn't resist the temptation.
