Come take a ride…
The 12 tunes on RSessions' debut release, “On The Tracks,” are the result of a musical journey that began with Rex Robinson, his acoustic guitar, and a slide. His music is, for the most part, blues based (slide is prominent on both "She's Gotta Go," and the title cut, "On the Tracks,") Harmonica (provided by Dave Sanders) also is featured on the title cut and other tracks.The writing also veers into other genres, including rock ("Good Thing"), jazz ("New Groove"), and folk ("Hope," the sole instrumental track on the CD). While Robinson wrote the music and lyrics, session musicians played a quintessential role in the recordings, hence the name, RSessions (the "R" stands both for Rex, yet also has a broader meaning..."Our," to encompass everyone who is playing and providing vocal tracks on the CD). Like a moving train with changing scenery and passengers, the project is very fluid - ever evolving. It is not meant to be a set band, with set members. For this part of the journey, session players included, Jessica Lee (vocals); Dave DeMent (bass); Roger Reinsalu (lead guitar); Dave Sanders (keys and harmonica); Bill Robinson (keys); Bret Figura (drums); and Scott Brady (drums). Dave DeMent also provided the studio, and was the engineer and co-producer with Rex on the project. Bret Figura did all the design work for the CD cover, and Mary Compton shot all the photography for the cover and for the Web site, www.rsessions.com.
