Rubicava

 Birmingham, England, GBR
BandRockAlternative

British indie rock veterans (barely into their 20's) taking inspiration from the knowing wit and pop-nous of Pavement, Deathcab for Cutie, Pixies, The Replacements and Modest Mouse as well as the twisted melodic experimentation of Radiohead, The Smiths and The Cure.

Biography

Since forming in their infancy back in the early months of 2011, Midlands 4-piece Rubicava have hardly been strangers to misfortune. Formed from the ashes of departed progressive rock outfit Dead Letter Office and after months of solid rehearsal on the cusp of a summer tour, the bands drummer dislocated her knee (just as, if not more painful than it sounds) and was forced to return home to Cornwall to heal. Weeks turned into months as the bands remaining members squirrelled away to write a fresh batch of new material and await their departed comrades return.

By Autumn Rubicava had amassed a collection of almost 20 new songs and when they learned of their former charges intentions to move onto the big smoke following half a year in limbo (otherwise known as 'Falmouth') they set about searching for a new skin slammer. Matthew Bennett (who by chance just so happened to live practically next door to singer/guitarist Benjamin Hiorns) picked up the sticks in November and the last 3 months have seen the band finally back on dry land after 6 months in the shallows. Completing the line-up is Kyle Gayne on bass and Hiorns's fellow ex Dead Letter Office man Jevon Davies on lead guitar.

Taking inspiration from the knowing wit and pop-nous of American bands such as Pavement, Deathcab for Cutie, Pixies, The Replacements and Modest Mouse and infused with the twisted melodic experimentation of Radiohead, The Smiths and The Cure with dashes of Tom Waits and Nick Cave’s dark dramatics, a reinvigorated Rubicava plan on gigging throughout the Spring/Summer following the release of their debut album which is remarkably close to completion.

After that it's all up in the air, but barring any further unfortunate injuries the band hope to make 2012 the year that 2011 could (nay SHOULD) have been.

Here's hoping!
