"Metalliville CD Reviews"

“ This Mexican 4-piece’s name seems to remind me of a popular eighties toy for some reason. That might be very well, because, as verified on their promo chitty they indeed doing everything across the six faces represented on the dastardly cube itself. Instrumental acts don’t often get me right to the end their disc but this lot do make a rare success, stealing ones ears for a largely scintillating trip through their library of styles. Soul, blues, metal, and rock and prog all poke their finger somewhere in the pie here and it still tastes edible in the long run. There is that evident Latino edge to their produce, notably on ‘Liquid Explosion’ amongst places somewhat appropriate for those long blustery nights in an out of town border bar. The keyboards become nearly irritating between the third and fourth numbers, spoiling the surprisingly good accessibility of the piece but it is mostly typical laid back guitar cool delivered with a style not adrift of Rage Against The Machine” - Dave Attrill

"Review of CD album by rock band Rubik1138"

“ Ahhh, Rubik 1138 - where the hell were you when I really needed you? Do you remember those Halcyon Days in the dim and distant past when you had righteously chosen the head-banging, heavy rock path to the Emerald City? At that time all you wanted was a band who ripped out tooth-loosening riff after tooth-loosening riff - Sabbath, Purple, Led Zep, anyone - so long as they rocked, had screaming guitars and made your ears bleed. Fast forward forty years (yes, forty) and here are the band you would have sold your soul for - Rubik 1138, a high-octane riff machine from Mexico of all places, who've come to kick your arse. ” - Alan Jones - Get Ready to ROCK!

"CD Review"

“Rubik 1138 have created nothing short of what can be described as a demented masterpiece. It can't be pigeonholed, labelled or slowed down - it's seven tracks of nothing short of pure energy. Album opener "Mr. Vertigo" sets the tempo as is meanders through the genres like water through a crack in the wall. Second track "Liquid Explosion" then moves from never ending guitar riffs to a funky interlude halfway through. You just can't sit back and relax, since the curve ball is always just around the corner. The album's insanity culminates during the just shy of then minutes track "Srita. Infamia". This spans everything from funk, classic rock, progressive ballad, to country. It's fantastically addictive music for anyone with an ear just slightly distant from the norm. Refreshingly original and magnificently catchy. Phil Davies, PowerPlay Magazine, UK.” - Power Play Magazine - Phil Davies

Bio

The band's first appearance was on june 2009, representing a breaking point in their local scene, Toluca, Mexico. It was the first time a band used videos during their performance, and showed an outstanding conceptual show that kept the audience holding their breath.

In 2010 they started recording their first album, which was finally published on january 2011.

The musical influences of the band can be tracked in bands such as Led Zepellin and Rush, mixed with Tortois, Allman Brothers, and even funk bands such as Lettuce.

There are some glances of other prog-rock classic bands such as Pink Floyd or King Crimson, passing through the dutch Focus and the USA band Dream Threater.

The first album -published world wide thourgh CD Baby- received good press reviews in Mexico and in the United Kingdom.

The band has toured only in Mexico, playing in many different cities, festivals and venues.

Rubik1138 has been considered a very "creative" band. No one expects what is going to come from the gig. Each track performed is a promise of an upcoming surprise; it's amusing. The visual part of the show allows the audience to create their own personal trip.

Rubik1138 shows are fun for the non musicians, inspiring for the artists, fresh for those looking for new musical proposals and have not found none yet.
