Bio
No one can resist the passion and intensity of the tango. We discovered that we shared this love of tango in April of 2006. We put together a program of our own arrangements of irresistable tangos by the great master Astor Piazzolla. Inspired by Piazzolla, we wrote our own tangos in his style. We have backgrounds in a wide variety of music. Amy has written music for films and television and has released several albums. Tom plays everything from punk rock to bluegrass to country and has performed and/or recorded with John Wesley Harding, Wayne Horvitz, Papas Fritas, Guster, Meisce and SweetLou.
Amy Rubin is known for her “clarity, conscience, ability to inhabit a wide-open aesthetic terrain, to deftly mingle jazz, blues, Latin rhythms, West African drumming, and European-American concert traditions. ” (Carol Oja, musicologist) She is “ a composer of many guises, many stylistic venues...she lets all those traditions filter through her personality and the result is manifold and varied but with a distinct Rubin feel to it. Amy and Tom have performed together at Seattle's City Hall and at the venerable Sorrento Hotel.
