Bio

Where can a voice take you? If the singer happens to be Ruby Collins, the answer is simply: anywhere! Blessed with a rare musical ability and a gift for connecting with an audience, Ruby has touched countless converts throughout her storied career both personally, professionally, and as an entertainer.
Billboard said, "Her forte is a smooth, jazzy pop/amalgam dazzlingly reminiscent of early Roberta Flack." The Gospel Times said, "She sings from the heart with plenty of soul."
Actually long before now, Ruby Collins impressed everyone around her with star potential. Growing up in the Seventh- Day Adventist church in Brooklyn, Ruby began singing in the church. Soon she developed enough confidence and began singing at talent shows, such as, “Showtime at the Apollo” winning over the audience with her soulful voice and charisma.
In 1994 when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer Ruby joined the police department to help take care of her mom and three brothers financially. Although her dream was diverted temporarily her talent could not be hidden behind the blue uniform for long. With less than six months on the job Ruby was asked to sing at Madison Square Garden for her police graduation. In attendance was former mayor David Dinkins, Police Commissioner Kelly and over five thousand people. The Daily News said, "Ruby Collins, delivered a moving and soulful rendition of the national anthem."
The Police department knew that they had someone special. Ruby Collins became the voice that represented the police department. Singing and representing police all over the United States she was chosen to sing in Washington D.C. at the National Peace Officers Memorial Day which was attended by President Bill Clinton and sharing the stage with Grammy Winner Mariah Carey. Ruby has also performed on the "Rosie O'Donnell Show," "Life Time Television" and "New Attitude" on the "Oprah's Oxygen Media."
This Police officer, turn teacher, singer/musician and songwriter is eagerly looking forward to the next chapter in her life. "I can’t wait to tour the world and do what I was born to sing!!!," says Ruby. Ruby Collins has the highest hopes and the worthiest of ambitions. The times may be uncertain, but music has always had the power to heal and bring joy, especially in the hands of a brilliant singer like Ruby Collins.

One of the first things you notice listening to this album is how strong Ruby's voice is, how effortlessly she carries a melody and moves from soft and tender to strong and passionate. The lyrics are emotional, humorous, and story telling. Fantastic lyrics that have you caught on every single word. If you want you can focus on the lyrics, if you want, you can concentrate purely on her voice, the emotions and melody her voice carries. If you desire you can focus purely on the music. Each aspect is worthwhile on it's own. Put together, this album is worth it!
