"Local Bands Strive To Achieve Stardom"

Sheboygan County has a plethora of undiscovered talent and venues.
In December of 2007, then seniors Nathan Knepperath and Jake Schwab (2008 PHS graduates) then-junior Max Thiesenhusen and then-sophomore Cody Wisman joined forces to form “Rufkut,” a punk/rock/metal band. Schwab is on vocals, Thiesenhusen on guitar, Knepperath on bass, and Wisman on drums. The first rehearsals were held in Wisman’s basement.
“The idea (for the band) actually came around in drama class,” stated Thiesenhusen. The idea for the band’s name came form Schwab’s grandmother.
“We were just goofing around when Jake’s grandma suggested the name, so we played around with the spelling. But the main idea came from Jake’s grandma,” said Thiesenhusen.
The current band consists of Schwab and Thiesenhusen, with new members Gus Schwab (J. Schwab’s cousin) on drums and Corey Kempf on Bass.
The bands repertoire consists of original material, with Thiesenhusen being the primary songwriter. Thiesenhusen writes the music and lyrics with Jake Schwab occasionally contributing with lyrics. The band has recently finished recording a nine-track album.
Rufkut has played at various venues, from their first gig at the Plymouth Youth Center to playing small theaters, such as The Miramar, and The Rave (three times) in Milwaukee.
“The first time (we played at The Rave) we were nervous because we had just started with our new drummer, Gus, but it went really well. We had a lot of fun,” said Thiesenhusen.
Paradigm Coffee and Music in Sheboygan is just one local venue where you can go to hear music. Musicians of various genres are invited to perform (for booking info contact paradigmbooking@gmail.com). Paradigm offers shows multiple times per week. The hours are Tues-Fri 7 am-11 pm and Saturday and Sunday 9am-11pm.

Bio

Rufkut was started late december 2007, in Plymouth Wisconsin under the name Romance Is Dead. Under this name we played a few shows before our old drummer quit, thinking our music was getting out of his genre range. After a couple of slump drummers we finally landed the singers' cousin to be our drummer. Since then, we have recorded twice, with our debut scheduled to come out early 2009. We also have played some shows around Milwaukee, including a gig at The Rave opening for Escape The Fate, Chiodos, Silverstein, and A Skylight Drive. With influences ranging from early Green Day, to tinges of bands like Cradle of Filth, we are a band that should appeal to a wide variety of people and be able to leave our mark on the music scene!
