"Ruin - "Reopen" [Music Video]"

Portland, Maine thrash metal band, Ruin, have released their first music video for the single "Reopen." "Reopen" is the first single off of Ruin's third full-length release Rite of Passage. Rite of Passage was produced and mastered by Kevin Billingslea at Lion’s Maine Studio in Waterboro, Maine.

Ruin's distinguished, no holds barred style crashes full speed ahead, taking no prisoners. The thunderous four piece displays an unabashed, unrelenting sound. Ranging from their reflective compelling lyrical content to their devastating musical precision. Ruin is a true force of nature. Deviating from current convention, they have produced a bold, stripped down American metal that cuts across styles and stands alone. Ruin was founded in 2005 by brothers Rich and Craig Carey, and completed by Kevin Whitman and Todd Bidwell. - Pure Grain Audio (Canada)

"Unsigned and Unholy"

Portland, ME’s Ruin offer the perfect mix of thrash and groove — they’re not a derivative “re-thrash” band, but their influences are clear, and they have a fantastic understanding of how to get bodies moving. Check out “Reopen” from their new album Right of Passage” (order: iTunes or Amazon). Catch them on tour around the Northeast and upper Midwest in September; dates here. - MetalSucks.com

"Amplified: Ruin “Reopen” a can of groovy thrash"

Amplified is a weekly column focusing on unsigned and local artists. If you think your band fits the bill, email us at amplified@metalinsider.net

Mmm, groove. There was definitely a time that every band I listened to had to sound like Ruin, and I’m disappointed my teenage self didn’t know about them. Ruin’s style is mostly rooted in no-nonsense New Wave American Metal, as evidenced by the track “Reopen” from their most recent release, Rite of Passage. The bulk of the song is about as thrash as you can get, but it’s peppered with some monster swinging grooves, and the stuttering opening riff as well as the sort of atonal, but focused lead work could be straight off of an unheard release from my other favorite smart person’s groove metal band, Byzantine. There’s a healthy dose of As The Palaces Burn-era Lamb of God in the guitar tone and some of the overall vibe.

I’m convinced that their Portland, Maine heritage is the only reason Ruin isn’t touring with Revocation – the thrash revival has been on full blast for the last few years and I don’t think enough people are looking to the little nub at the top of the country for their fix of new bands. (I had a spirited conversation about local music with singer/guitarist Rich Carey that was unfortunately lost to the ether when my conference line’s recording crapped the bed, but he swears by the rich bar culture and active music community within it that’s been thriving after a period of inactivity, so maybe we’ll be seeing a major influx of Portland bands coming down to pillage the mainland in the next few years.)

Watch the video for “Reopen” below, buy Rite of Passage on iTunes, keep an eye out for new music from Ruin in the near future, and if you’re an East Coaster, you have a few chances to check them out over the next week.

Bio

RUIN is a thrash metal band from Portland Maine USA. Staring in 2005, with brothers Richard and Craig Carey, RUIN quickly became a local music sensation. Their newest and self-released album, Rite of Passage, only further exemplifies the band’s precision, articulate expression and discipline, in their pursuit of no-holds-barred thrash metal. With influences that range from: Pantera, Anthrax, Sepultura, Meshuggah, and Metallica, RUIN has developed their own original brand of thrash metal. Taking their idols sense of groove, soaring leads, and in your face vocals as inspiration to craft their own unique sound. RUIN have been forging their craft since 2005, having released three full lengths and have shared the stage with Strapping Young Lad, Soulfly, God Forbid, and Fear Factory, and many more. RUIN is rounded out by Todd Biddwell (Bass) and Kevin Whitman (Guitar) who each help magnify the sonic force that Richard and Craig envisioned. RUIN’s latest release “Rite of Passage” has seen RUIN’s fan base grow beyond their home town and has caused them to start touring on a regional/national level. RUIN is looking forward to taking their original brand of thrash metal to YOU!
