Rule of 3rds

Rule of 3rds

BandRockAlternative

Part blues, part funk, part acoustic jam, and all groove rock, Rule of 3rds mixes classic rock roots with modern sensibilities and a huge stage presence to create waves of pure rock joy, pushing against the tide of negativity and sameness that pervades music today.

Biography

“I’m not here just to sing. Listen up!” barks Kevin Weinberg as Rule of 3rds kicks into "Never The Same", a booty-shakin’ blues rocker that crashes into the staccato backhand ending:

When the midnight crawls
And hook-up calls
They call you to your graves
By the time you cross your paths with me
Have something nice to say
Because you never know what I could do for you
You'd never be the same

As the crowd starts to move, they only begin to sense what they are in for. Adept at all dynamics, the Rule of 3rds set starts big and ends huge, with a wide gamut of moods throughout, from the rolling, angular feel of "Changes", the massive thump of "Sometimes", and the straightforward sing-along pop hit of "Angel". Rule of 3rds combines deep musical experience and tasty grooves into impeccable and sticky songs.

Rule of 3rds (originally known as Made), hails from San Diego, California, where they have developed a strong following over their two years. “What’s really cool about our buzz is that it’s been 100% audience-driven,” says bass player Keith Langill. “We’ve done almost no direct promotion of ourselves, only the shows. Everything has happened on the strength of the songs and the loyalty of our fans.” This includes being selected as a finalist in San Diego radio station Rock 105.3’s Band Aid contest, resulting in gigs in some of the finest venues supporting local music in SD and opening slots for national acts. “But that’s all going to change, now that the EP is done. We’re ready to do the work.”

Rule of 3rds has spent the last six months working on their self-produced EP "Changing Perspectives". “This was a lot of hard work, but we’re really proud of these songs,” says Kevin. “There’s nothing trivial about any of them. Each one is crafted exactly as we wanted them. And it’s been totally worth it, as that makes it easy for me to present these songs live, because I’m so committed to them.”

Rounding out with Ed Stocke on guitar and Matthew Stewart on drums, bearing a brilliant new disc, and the love of their fans and support team, Rule of 3rds aims to change your perspective—on rock and roll, on yourself, on the world.

“[Angel] Sounds like something they should be playing on the radio now.”
- Steve, Burlington, NC

“Wow. I’m shaking in my Sketchers. [Angel is a] Great song. This sorta tune never goes out of style…songs like this take over the world. Wonderful job.”
- Jarrett Beeler / SomeOddSense, Chesapeake, VA

“YOU GUYS ROCK!”
- Shannon Leder, Rock 105.3 DJ

Lyrics

Never Be The Same

Written By: Kevin Weinberg

When you learn to drown the bad stuff
Down into it’s death
And you learn to let the good stuff
Be the only thing left
Well any day you wanna run with me
I’ll tell you that it’s cool
Any day you wanna run with me
You gotta be you

You’ll never be the same

When your job sucks every last bit
Of your energy
And it’s getting under your skin
I’ll tell you what to say

But you’ll never be the same

You’ll never be the same again
You’ll never be the same if you give in
You’ll never be the same
I’ll never be the same
Just because I can

When your other says they’re moving
Up into another state
Then be asked to move with them
Tell me what you’re sayin’
When they say them or you friends someone
Has got to go
That’s the day deciding no ultimatums
Anymore

You’ll never be the same

With your heart in your throat
And questions already read
Down on one knee
Do you know what you just said?
You’ll never be the same

No, you’ll never be the same again
You’ll never be the same if you give in
You’ll never be the same
You’ll never be the same
No, no, no, come back again?

When the midnight crawls
And hookup calls
They call you to your graves
By the time you cross your paths
With me have something nice to say
Because you never know
What I could do for you

You’ll never be the same

No, you’ll never be the same again
You’ll never be the same if you give in
You’ll never be the same
You’ll never be the same
No, no, no, come back again?

No, you’ll never be the same again
You’ll never be the same if you give in
You’ll never be the same
You’ll never be the same
No, no, no, come back again?

When the midnight crawls
And hookup calls
They call you to your graves
By the time you cross your paths
With me have something nice to say
Because you never know
What I could do for you

You’ll never be the same

Failure

Written By: Kevin Weinberg

Are you waiting
Because you’re tired?
Are you waiting because you’re fired
To go on?
Are you waiting because your bored?
Or are you waiting just to ignore them all?

Well it’s all
It’s all so complicated
And we’re on our own
Why do we equate it
To being on our own?

Well, I am not a failure

You don’t seem to proud now
C’mon tell it to em loud now
C’mon come, don’t go on
You don’t seem to loud now
C’mon tell it to em loud now
C’mon come, don’t go on
Well it’s all gonna be so complicated
And it’s all gonna feel wrong
And it may seem like I’ve been compensating
Just don’t wanna see you stall

Well it’s all
It’s all so complicated
And we’re on our own
Why do we equate it
To being on our own?

Are you waiting
Because you’re tired?
Are you waiting because you’re fired
To go on?
Are you waiting because your bored?
Or are you waiting just to ignore us all?

Well it’s all
It’s all so complicated
And we’re on our own
Why do we equate it
To being on our own?

C’mon sing it to me loud now
C’mon sing it to me proud now

I am not a failure

Make It Happen

Written By: Kevin Weinberg

You can make it happen
Doesn’t matter how it goes
You can make it happen
Changes ebb and changes flow
No more games
No more people stay the same
It doesn’t matter how you try
Just know you’ve got to take
Your reins

And when you’re scared as hell
Because when you go
You don’t see what’s in store
And you’re scared as hell
Because it’s where
You’ve never been before
No more shame
No more passing out the blame
No more going through the motions
Only to have it end in pain

You can make it happen if you know
That you can
You can make it happen
If you face and can’t stand
The thought of growing old
And growing cold

You can make it happen
Doesn’t matter how hard you try
You can make it happen
Changes come and they will fly
Over heads and over bounds
Climbing over lines and grounds
You can make it happen
Even if you lack the sound
Of this
If you lack the sound of this

You can make it happen if you know
That you can
You can make it happen if you face
All your fears
And call all your faults for what they are
You call your faults for what they are
They are, they are, they are

And you’re calling out for games
Because you know you need the shame
You know, you know
You’re never coming back again
I’m never coming back again
And it’s coming up again
And you know you need the shame
And you’re calling on
Who you calling on
When you call?

You can make it happen
If you know you wanna change
You can make it happen
If it’s for your better days
And you can make it happen
Even if it makes you cry
Because if you don’t make it happen
Then the life will just die in you

Die in you

I foresee you change your ways
And live to seal your fate
All your friends will be amazed
That you’ve flipped and know yourself
And I’d expect, then
You won’t feel the pain

Cowboy

Written By: Kevin Weinberg

Feeling better
All ready for the day
Where I won’t be lost
And I won’t be wronged
And they’ll never roll away

And the time will come
Is really all it comes down to
And when all is lost
It dawned on me
Then you’ll understand

It’s coming up again
It would never leave me alone
Do you cope or get by?
Oh well,
I would rather be alone

So tell me all your truths
And tell me what we’re gonna do
Gonna do, gonna do
So I won’t be lost
And I won’t be gone
But you’ll never learn a thing

And your life will drift
Like you do
It would
Never leave me alone
Do you cope or get by
Oh well,
I would rather be alone

All these things
I have to face
Should I stay?
Should I walk?
At least I won’t be lost

And do you think I’d rather be
A slave, along?
“Stay or I’ll cry”
oh it weighs, weighs
it weighs
Until I would rather be alone

Alone, alone, alone

Sometimes

Written By: Kevin Weinberg

Sometimes
You know you gotta leave it here
Sometimes
You know you gotta take it home
Sometimes
You know you gotta be no steer
Sometimes
The bulls are running over you

When habit comes inside
As if to say
Hell, I cant believe you
When habit comes inside
As if to say
You’re not gonna take it home with you
How you gonna try
I don’t think you know the way
How you gonna try
If you don’t know that

Those day s roll over you?
How they’re rolling over you
Heavy, rolling over you

Sometimes
You know you gotta leave it here
Sometimes
You know you gotta take it home
Sometimes
You know you gotta be no steer
Sometimes
The bulls are running over you

And the questions never stand
If we need you in our plan
Because of where we’re coming from
Nothing changed here
Well if you don’t know what
You gotta do
Or where you coming from
You can take them through
Just don’t know where they’re going
To stay
You can take them through
Just know they’re not
Going away

Sometimes
You know you gotta leave it here
Sometimes
You know you gotta take it home
Sometimes
You know you gotta leave it here
Sometimes
The fights coming home to you
Sometimes
You know you gotta be no steer
Sometimes
The bulls are running over you
Sometimes
You know you got us in the clear
Sometimes
You know they’re
Running over you

And you’ll never feel what change brings
If you come undone
Don’t come undone
Don’t come undone
Because you know you gotta leave it here
You know you gotta take it home
You know you gotta be no steer
You know

Sometimes
You know you gotta leave it here
Sometimes
You know you gotta take it home
Sometimes
You know you gotta be no steer
Sometimes
The bulls are running over you

The bulls are running over you
