Rumbafrica rolls into Newton

Groove to the sounds of African dance band Rumbafrica at a Sunday Evening Heritage Festival. The ensemble's classic Zairian style weaves fast-moving guitar lines, pulsating rhythms, and singing in the Lingala language. Rumbafrica will perform 6:15-8:15 p.m. Sunday at the Newton Centre Green, Langley Road and Centre Street. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. Canceled in case of rain. Admission is free. Incorporates the sweet vocal harmonies and lilting dance rhythms of classic Congolese rumba. As well as the cranking, non-stop beat of modern Soukous. Guitar theatrics, percussion breakdowns, and traditional dancing are all part of Rumbafrica's stage show.
