Rumbafrica rolls into Newton
July 29, 2004
Groove to the sounds of African dance band Rumbafrica at a Sunday Evening Heritage Festival. The ensemble's classic Zairian style weaves fast-moving guitar lines, pulsating rhythms, and singing in the Lingala language. Rumbafrica will perform 6:15-8:15 p.m. Sunday at the Newton Centre Green, Langley Road and Centre Street. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. Canceled in case of rain. Admission is free. About the Artist
Rumbafrica is the Boston area's premier dance band and has received numerous awards including the Boston Music Awards for Outstanding World Music Act in 1995 and an Award at Artscap 97 Festival in Baltimore MD for Outstanding World Music Act.

Rumbafrica
Incorporates the sweet vocal harmonies and lilting dance rhythms of classic Congolese rumba. As well as the cranking, non-stop beat of modern Soukous. Guitar theatrics, percussion breakdowns, and traditional dancing are all part of Rumbafrica's stage show.
