Bio

Blue Mountains born band, Rumpunch combine the melodies of reggae, the rhythm of funk with the wit and gusto of hip-hop. Their debut self titled album, released in July 08, is a collaboration of 70’s roots inspiration, analogue textures, gypsy flair and to top it off, contemporary, candid, punchy lyrics.

Rumpunch’s debut album launch at the Gaelic Club was a packed out success and ‘Rumpunch’ the album impressed on many, in the words of Birdland Records - “Easily one of the freshest, spiciest debut albums to come along in ages… A lick of The Cat Empire here, a drop of Fat Freddy’s Drop there… Rumpunch are currently one of the best live bands around”.

On the cards for Rumpunch for 2009 is hitting the summer festival circuit, national tours as they make their stake interstate and time in the studio in preparation for their anticipated second album release early 2010. Look out for Rumpunch’s exclusive live single release in May 09 and get a taster of their upcoming album with a single release and Teaser Tour in September 09.
Members include Charlotte Craib, piano and vocals, who has her duo Charlie and the Maddox Factory, now a local festival staple. She also sings backup vocals for Sydney Soul Sisters - Leanne Paris Band and Miss Donne.

Tuka, MC/vocals, also performs in Thundamentals and was recently signed to Obese. He also features on Chasm’s recently released album and has hosted Triple J’s open mic hip hop shows. ‘Tuka’ has played alongside international acts such as DJ Kool Herc and on the local scene he’s gigging alongside Astronomy Class, Urthboy and frequently jumps up with The Tongue.

Mick Stuart, alto sax, expertly dabbles across a number of instruments on the latest Hermitude, BlueJuice and Urthboy albums. Mick has recently finished his two year long tour with the Helpmann award winning musical ‘Keating!’ playing electric guitar, sax and vocals with the acclaimed on stage band.

To complete Rumpunch, other talented members include Aaron O’Neil who appears in the O’Really Culture jam and is known for his skilled use of guitar effects. Evan Jones on Bass also fronts his solo project ‘The Hobo’s’ and Michael Silk is an independent producer and much of Rumpunch’s second album is being recorded, mixed and produced in Michael’s home studio.

On the festival circuit Rumpunch have shared the stage with Hermitude, the Crooked Fiddle Band and King Farook. Locally they’ve played shows alongside Ilzilla, Blue King Brown, Rastawookie, The Red Eyes, The Bakery, Lo-Tek, Chasm, De Jah Groove and Kobra Kai.

Rumpunch are a proudly independent band and are passionate about supporting the music and arts in Sydney and beyond.
