"Live Review: Gift of Gab w/ Run with the Heard – May 4th 2011, Bar None, Vancouver B.C."

If you are not aware of the seven-piece Vancouver band Run With The Heard then you are missing out on one of Vancouver’s best kept secrets. Never identifying as a super group but literally being a group of super people, RWTH challenge everything there is to know about live stage production, musicals genres and the potential possibility of lyricist. Each of the members brings something interesting and perfect to their live show, which is always a good time dance party. Lasting just under an hour, their set ran the gambit of dance possibilities from dark and heavy, to ‘glitchy’, to straight up booty moving music. Playing songs like “Smash the Clock”, ”The Women I Want’ and their newest song ‘Ctrl+Atl+Delete’, their stage presence picked up the audience and murdered them outright with their submissive-sporadic dance movements. These kids know how to command a room and hopefully a full length album will follow shortly this year. - Abort Mag

"Sex With Strangers unleashes a sweaty, hedonistic dance party"

Run With the Heard kept the party people moving with its freakish take on experimental dance-pop. With as many as seven people on stage at once, the outfit delivered a genre-defying squall that ranged from Auto-Tuned pop to backwoods country to ’90s-infused hip-hop. Strangest of all was one song that began as a ramshackle banjo hoedown before morphing into a computerized rager that, bizarrely, found a middle ground between folk and electroclash. Tight as the musicianship was, the best part of the whole spectacle was the sunglasses-wearing bro clutching a tiny plastic six-stringer that appeared to be a Guitar Hero controller converted into a synthesizer. - The Georgia Straight - Alex Hudson

"Nothing Disappointing about Olio Festivals first night acts"

Over at the Bourbon, revelation number two of the night was provided by the Heard. Seriously, watch for these guys, who basically went off like a pipe bomb. Take three revved-up MCs, add a dude playing what appeared to be a Guitar Hero toy axe, and round things out with a drummer who looked like a ’60s-boho version of Tom Waits, and you’ve got a freak show. But the Heard also had the songs, with all of the Bourbon’s party people screaming along to every jam.

Piper Davis had her work cut out for her. After the Heard left the well-liquored Bourbon crowd screaming for more.... - Mike Usinger - The Georgia Straight

"one cool word Winter 2008 Release Party: Love is in the Air"

The Heard was up next, grooving their way into the audience’s heart with a fresh sound and active stage presence. With a San Francisco Giants baseball cap, sweater vest, and ass-riding jeans, the lead singer owned the stage with his co-star singer, together fusing Fugees and K-Os into their own original hip hop. The lead singers and DJ boogied and bounced around the stage, while the drummer sang smooth melodies. Supporting all of them was the electric upright bass player, keeping the musical flow to the band. The Heard was a huge hit with the crowd, with most up and dancing. The audience, more than satisfied, was still nodding their heads to the beat long after their last song. - http://www.onecoolword.com/extras/one-cool-word-winter-2008-release-party-love-is-i/

Text - The Heard is pretty much the best band ever... I think everyone should go see them live. A wicked drummer/singer/composer/musical guru, a wicked bassist, two guys on laptops and three hip-hop emcees, one of whom is a super foxy lesbian... what else could you want in a band? - http://malloreigh.livejournal.com/581560.html

"Nanaimo Grassroots Festival"

“The Heard is another unique band that I will be paying much attention to in coming years. Each musician in this band comes from different backgrounds, including folk, hip-hop and heavy metal.

Together they create a sound that leaps from genre to genre with each track. Band member Joel Sneddon moved from Nanaimo five years ago.

He said his band always aims to create new sounds with every track.

The Heard is the latest addition to my playlist. I hope you like them.”

"The Heard - The Women I Want"

Lately I have been getting really fed up with the music industry especially hip hop. It just seems like you have to either know someone or be rich enough to pay your way through. Thats why I want to focus a large part of my blog on the vancouver music scene and all that it has to offer. Vancouver is filled with talented artists & Musicians. However, if you type Vancouver Hip Hop in google you will get a few very out of date and poor sites.

I want to change that.

I’m not going to get into how I found these guys, all that matters is I found them and they are amazing. Im going to the Anza Club Thursday, October 23 to see them live and give you guys a review so stay tuned or better yet, if you like it come to the show!

Claim:

Run with the Heard is an experience unlike any other. There is literally NOTHING like it.. Unless you've seen that OTHER multi-genre-high-energy-audio-visual-electro-acoustic party band that uses vintage video game controllers to glitch and effect live instruments and vocals.

Facts:

- We are the band with something for everyone. We've created our own unique blend of genres, combining pop, rock, folk, post-punk, dubstep, house, metal, hip hop, electro, and countless sub-genres of dance music.

- We are a hard working, self sufficient group of net savvy geeks that utilize social media at a professional level. (we don't just create a facebook event page)

- As headliners, we've sold out a number of spaces, including some of Vancouver's most popular venues.

- We've played a number of festivals, including: Shambhala, Olio, Under the Volcano.

- We’ve shared the stage with these artists: Teagan and Sara, Kid Koala, Blackalicious, Humans, Raekwon, Har Mar Superstar, Mother Mother, The Coup, Devin the Dude.

- RWTH develops and makes use of groundbreaking technologies. We perform with custom-built digital instruments, such as modified video game controllers, smart phones and other gadgets, used to glitch, chop and manipulate the audio signals of vocals, banjos, guitars and other instruments.

- Our music is accompanied by a powerful visual element, utilizing innovative use of footage and digital art to create a stunning live atmosphere perfectly synchronized with our elaborate stage performance.

- Our producer was featured on CBC News: The National after winning a competition to have one of his remixes on K-Os’ latest album.

- The three vocalists/traditional instrumentalists come from very different musical backgrounds.

- We have theme shows, dress up in costumes, give away prizes, and generally bring a party everywhere we go.

These people from the Georgia Straight (pretty big deal in Vancouver) said these things about us:

“Run With the Heard kept the party people moving with its freakish take on experimental dance-pop. With as many as seven people on stage at once, the outfit delivered a genre-defying squall that ranged from Auto-Tuned pop to backwoods country to ’90s-infused hip-hop.”
