Philadelphia Holdover

Written By: Rushing Hayden

Why don't you come down
from New York City,
Travel on south to Virginia,
Battle slow trains,
Blizzard railways,
A Philadelphia Holdover.

We'll escape to my townhouse
tucked away up in the ‘burbs.
Man-made lakes look so pretty
and white from virgin snow.
Grid ways give way to parkways
that surround it all.
And the windowpanes
are so oblivious to it all.

Can't you see it my dear,
so picture perfect
when you're here but,

You're stuck in Philadelphia
so I'll make my way to you.
No matter how cold or frozen you know the things I'd do for you.
But you're on your way
so I'll see you soon.

Step out of the taxi
from Union Station.
I'll pay the man off gladly
so you can soak you toes.
The Weatherman,
he didn't say nothing
about fifteen inches of snow.
Leave it to the girl to travel in nothing but her sandals.

Can't you see it my dear,
so picture perfect
when you're here but,

You're stuck in Philadelphia
so I'll make my way to you.
No matter how cold or frozen you know the things I'd do for you.
But you're on your way
so I'll see you soon.

Why don't you come down
from New York City,
Travel on south to Virginia,
Battle slow trains,
Blizzard railways,
A Philadelphia Holdover.

Crazyhead

Written By: Rushing Hayden

I've been living in my head
with padded walls & vaulted ceilings
& a cloud from cigarettes.
These hanging portraits are my friends.
They cannot hurt me unless I break the glass
that holds them in...

But I've been bleeding for a while.

I watch winter melt again.
Spring blooms anew,
but I feel old & at my end.
Behind this window where I stand,
Safe with padded walls but feelings flaw
and Bitter sets the trend.

I'm so scared I can feel no more.

Crazy, I've been locked up here inside my head
hoping you might still come to save me yet.
When the show is over & you're much more sober,
will you still want me by your side?

My heart could turn on me & then
it could break the law & make me crawl
down to the bitter end
where the loneliness depends
on a tattered sould which I hold onto
like my dearest friend.

But I just want to love someone.

Crazy, I've been locked up here inside my head
hoping you might still come to save me yet.
When the doors aren't open
& I'm locked & stubborn,
will you still help me by your side?

Oh how I want to be that crazyhead right there by your side.

Crazy, maybe, thinking you could want me.
Wishing, madly you could be the one to spring me
from walls where I hide, safe here locked inside.
Loneliness it suits me but all I want's for you to want me.

Bent & Beat

Written By: Rushing Hayden

Oh what a night for you to be by my side
And I know about all that snow,
Oh baby, I'll keep you warm.

But I don't know what to do.
I'm bent & beat over thinking about you.
The doubledisc I burnt you in June
I left on your doorstep
for you to hear in the morning when you woke,
start the day,
glad you're thinking about me.

What a shame to throw it all away.

But I don't know what to do.
I'm bent & beat over thinking about you
And I'm done tearing my heart in two.

I've got to pace for that low-rent space
my heart can handle at this rate.
I don't mind waiting all the time for your love
but if you must shuffle down the line

I don't know what I would do.
I'm bent & beat over thinking about you.
And I'm done tearing my heart in two.

Better Day

Written By: Rushing Hayden

This dream is not a new one.
I've got myself a sweetheart for the night, what a shame.
Sippin' on some red wine,
I struggle just to unwind from the lies in my grave.

Maybe that seems insane.
Hope tomorrow will be a better day.

I stumble through the courtyard,
Sippin' on a new start,
Watch the lights slowly fade.

I'm breaking down the reasons,
Analyze the treasons,
Wars my mind's always waged.

Momma please say I'll be ok.
Hope tomorrow will be a better day.

Wake up, shake up all the life inside your soul.
You're dead until you know...
Wake up, shake up all the life inside your soul.
You're dead until you know fate's not yours to mold.

Livin' in a shoebox,
Space enough to do what your hands were made.
Multiply the seasons and complicate the reasons for the why,
Just escape.

Maybe I'll be ok.
Hope tomorrow will be a better day.

Wake up, shake up all the life inside your soul.
You're dead until you know...
Wake up, shake up all the life inside your soul.
You're dead until you know fate's not yours to mold.

By My Side

Written By: Rushing Hayden

Wake up,
Good Morning,
Watch the sun roll into afternoon.
I think last night was my favorite evening
And if you don’t want to leave,
In fact I’d wish you’d stay
Because babydoll I just love having you by my side.

Sunday morning paper & a cofee with a stirring spoon.
Somewhere lost beneath those sheets
I find you down there laughing with a giggle and melted grin
Because babydoll I just love having you by my side.

By my side.
Baby, that’s where you belong.
By my side.
Darling, never do you wrong.
By my side.
You make me feel like I’m right at home
Because babydoll I just love having you by my side.

Wake up,
Good morning,
Watch the sun roll into afternoon.
I know those kids are always screaming.
As the years they slowly roll by,
I’m so glad you chose to stay
Because babydoll I just love having you by my side.

By my side.
Baby, that’s where you belong.
By my side.
Darling, never do you wrong.
By my side.
You make me feel like I’m right at home
Because babydoll I just love having you by my side.
