Lyrics

A Soldier's Life

Written By: Russel Bell

I SAW A SOLDIER WALKING DOWN THE STREET I STOPPED HIM TO SAY HELLO
PUT MY HAND OUT AND STARTED TO SPEAK
I SAID THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY SOUL
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SACRIFICE AND THINGS YOU DO
THANKS FOR PUTTING YOUR LIFE ON THE LINE, THAT’S NOT EASY TO DO

CHORUS: HE SAID THAT A SOLDIER’S LIFE AND THAT’S WHAT I SIGNED UP FOR
PROTECTING OUR WAY OF LIFE, IT DOESN’T MEAN I LIKE TO WAR,
IT DOESN’T MEAN I LIKE TO WAR

I SAID WHAT A TOUGH JOB YOU MUST HAVE BEING ALWAYS READY TO GO
IN A MOMENT THEY MIGHT CALL YOUR NAME OFF TO SOMEWHERE THAT YOU DON’T KNOW
LEAVING FRIENDS AND FAMILY BEHIND WHAT A HELL YOU MUST GO THROUGH
SEEING THINGS THAT DRIVE A GOOD MAN MAD AND THERE’S NOTHING YOU CAN DO

CHORUS:

SO WE CONTINUED OUR CONVERSATION AND WALKED DOWN THE STREET
HE TOLD ME OF HIS EXPLOITATION AND THE PEOPLE HE DID MEET
SOME COULD NOT SPEAK OUR LANGUAGE BUT THE GESTURES WERE UNDERSTOOD
WHAT THEY WANTED WAS PEACE AND SHELTER AND HE’D PROVIDE IT IF HE COULD

CHORUS:

HE’S BEEN OVERSEAS A TIME OR THREE AND SPOKE OF THE THINGS HE SAW
HE WOULD NOT TALK ABOUT THE WOUNDED MEN HE WOULD NOT TALK ABOUT THAT WAR
ALL HE SAID WAS HE LOST HIS LEG AND THAT WON’T BRING ME DOWN
I HAVE TO KEEP MY HEAD HELD HIGH I’M LUCKY TO STILL BE AROUND.

CHORUS:

Future's Door

Written By: Russel Bell

I remember the day when our eyes first meet, the glance you gave I’ll never forget.
A passing hello, no conversation, I wasn’t looking for a lifelong situation.
Then by chance we met again, that’s when I knew we would be more than friends.

How fast life can change, in the blink of an eye I can’t fight the change and I don’t understand why.

Before you came I played that game, now you’re here I don’t want to be the same
You became my wife and I have no regret, we raised a family, how lucky could I get.
We’re living the dream, when I heard the news, the curve they threw me, I could hardly move

That’s another day I’ll never forget, yes now I have regrets.

Future’s Door slam shut on me without you here there’s only memories.

How fast life can change, in the blink of an eye you can’t fight that change, and I don’t understand why.

They told you that it could be okay if you took your three a day
But I could only standby and witness your pain my hands tied,I tried in vain
My dreams shattered, now my worst fears; my nightmare begins cause you’re not here.

That’s another day I’ll never forget, yes now I have regrets.

Future’s Door slam shut on me without you here there’s only memories.

How fast life can change, in the blink of an eye you can’t fight that change, and I don’t understand why.
No I don’t understand why,
No I don’t understand why.

Simple Chatter

Written By: Russel Bell

What started out as simple chatter had no substance it did not matter.
We said things for a laugh and a smile that went on for a quite awhile.
Then one day everything changed, something happened, something felt strange.
An emotion I had not felt before, my heart of stone opened a door.

Something inside says let it go, keep the friendship don’t let it grow
Stay away from her for a while; it will go away like a fashion style.
Then I see her face again, those eyes I start wondering
Maybe the feelings are for real; should I take a chance, tell her how I feel.

Chorus: A door to my heart was opened wide. Should I let her get inside?
If she says yes, she’ll walk right in, if she says no, the door might never open again.

I try to kick back and keep my mind clean, but all I see is those of green.
Lying in bed alone again, I tell myself don’t let her in.
Then I close my eyes to try to sleep, but it’s her image is all I see.
I tell myself I don’t care anymore I’m going to let her inside that closed door.

So I took a chance and spoke my mind. I told her for the very first time.
I was hoping for the best, put my heart of stone to the test.
Then she spoke those words of horror to me she said this simply can’t be.
Your feelings cannot be real, close the door I’m going to tell you how I feel.

Chorus: The door to my heart was opened wide. She wouldn’t go inside
She said no, she didn’t walk in; the door may never open again.
A door to my heart was opened wide. She wouldn’t go inside
She said no, she didn’t walk on in; the door may never open again.
May never open again
