Bio
Russian Winters are a four-piece rockin-poppin machine from Perth. Kris Dimitroff (vocals/guitar) and Matty G (bass/vocals) formed the band in 2006 with bunch of tunes that busted out of the jam room. Later in the year, Sam Sterrett joined on lead guitar and the songs continued to flow. A few gigs around the local Perth original scene led to a healthy following and some choice supports. In particular, supporting Sydneys Expatriate and Perths Red Jezebel have been highlights.
The band received a magic boost in 2007 when Ben Crooke (ex-Halogen) joined on drums. A natural rhythm-machine, Ben has elevated the Russian Winters sound to pure pop paradise. A mutual love of Interpol/Kings of Leon and The Cure kisses the bands sound. Major achievements so far include a semi-final appearance in the 2006 Next Big Thing, a spot on the subsequent NBT compilation CD, regular airplay on RTR FM and now this; 2007 State Winners for the Coca Cola Live and Local Unsigned Comp!. The debut EP is to be recorded with Laurie McCallum at Sumo Sound Studios in October 2007 and the release in early 2008 will be highly anticipated.
