Bio
Andrei Russo holds the crown of percussionist in the Dutch scene. With his Russian background he is one of the most soughtfor percussionist of the Nederlands. The impressive variety of instruments he uses for performances, makes him very versitile in collaboration with DJs of many musical styles.
Andrei started his musical career as a pop drummer at the age of 15.Whilst studying at the Music Academy in Moscow he became familiar with Jazz and Latin music. It was there that he found his second love: percussion. On completion of his study at the world renowned Conservatory in Amsterdam he toured as a percussionist with a show band in Brazil and South Africa. He significantly expanded his musical boundaries over the years, even taking
in Big Band Swing and Pop, right through to Theatre and Latin American music. He has also given drum lessons and percussion workshops in his spare time.
As a percussionist Andrei Russo is inspired primarily by African, Cuban and South American music. As a musician he has real admiration for legendary artists such as Tito Puente, Sheila E, Gerardo Rosales and Ray Barretto. He also has great respect for today's DJ's and producers whohave made their mark in the scene, including the likes of Little Louis Vega, Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez (Masters At Work), Basement Jaxx, DJ Roog and Gregor Salto. Andrei's successful production collaboration with DJ�s/producers Madskillz (�Caliente�), Roog (�Ekudad/Crusaders�) en with D-Rashid (�Cashmere�, �Sensual�). DJ D-Rashid , the so-called "pionier of Latinhouse" in the Netherlands, ensures a real climax everywhere it is played. The duo of Andrei and D-Rashid, who have been together for six years, played at all the top Dutch festivals and events including Dance Valley, Lowlands, Innercity, Racism Beat It, Latin Village and Mysteryland. The boys have also completed a tour with Bacardi Bat Beats throughout the country.
They still work together but Andrei Russo plays also along with many other top DJ�s and artists like La Ona, Lucien Foort, Madskillz, Johnny Kelvin, Roog, Gregor Salto, Tom de Neef, Laidback Luke, Fedde le Grand, John de Colombia , Sindey Samson and many others. He has also expanded into international territory for example in Germany, Belgium, Portugal, Curasao, and played as supporting act for international `DJ�s like Dimitri From Paris, Junior Jack & Kid Creme including since 2006 the MXTronica Tour in Russia.
You can catch Andrei Russo on the decks at the Salsa Lounge in Amsterdam every month, which has been the top Latin event in Holland for over seven years and continues to go from strength to strength.
