"First Original Band to Be on Splash Mag. Cover 3/1/09"

When Mr. Young sang about it, it went something like, "Its better to burn out 'cause rust never sleeps". Well, Neil never heard the ecclectic sound of Norfolk's own original metal band, RUST. They couldn't possibly ever sleep and never seem to burn out because hordes of SPLASH mag readers just won't allow it! No sir. Splash readers confidently chose RUST, by voting them the first original band on MySpace, as well as, SPLASH magazine's Front Cover Band for March. There is definately more to the picture than meets the eye here. These guys have been coming up to Scoreboard for Thursday's Open Mic Night and hanging with the SPLASH crew telling their stories. They are all big and tall with that hair that just takes you back to where you can picture getting them all together on stage and squeezing them together for a head shot that would be reminiscent of those 80's monster rock bands Their accomplishments are never ending, but begin with a bunch of guys hailing from different backgrounds, bringing it back in their own way and style in 2005. Collectively they love music and know when it is going to work. Who says that once your gone you can never come back---RUST brings it all back--originals infused with late 80's, early 90's sounds and intense metal. They are not trying to sound like anyone but feel that "if it grooves, then HELL yes!"
So, you ask, who are these icons of both yesterday and today? They are longtime friends, John Ferreira on lead vocals, Rich Clark, lead guitar, Evan Swenson, guitar and Barry Couch is on bass guitar. Hmmm...next question? Where is the drummer? Well, fortunately for RUST fans--TBA shortly.
RUST won The Battle of the Bands at The Norva in Norfolk and the prize was to open for Finger 11 in the summer of 2008. They also have opened for White Lion, Airborne,Platinum Rose, Charm City Devils, BabyJayne, Blanco Diablo, and Zoso. They have been featured on MAX FM's, Homegrown, Internet Radio, Fat Cat Radio (where, by the way, the broke records for the most requested band), and Rockstars Glued. They have had the privledge of working with Guerrilla Records, who pressed their CD's for free and Jamie Smith from Download who recorded their CD's and was a fill in drummer in their time of need.
So are you ready? Are you feeling it? Its your one way ticket to midnight. Rust will bring you out of the blue and into the black.
Check out their tunes such as Freedom, Tranquility in Darkness, Hollow, and Devine Intervention (a SPLASH mag favorite) from their 4 song demo CD entitle "Let it Rust" at www. myspace. com/rustusa.
Have faith in ye old rockers fans from SPLASH magazine by Making it Metal, Making it RUST!!!!!

Discography

Although it was our freshman attempt at writing music together for the first time, our 4 song demo CD "Let it Rust" , has been well received, and we are presently in the process of recording a full length CD for release in late '09-early '10.

Our four songs are getting play time on internet radio and over the airwaves.

Bio

Our influences differ amongst us individually, but collectively range from the likes of Motley Crue, Ozzy, and Dokken to Megadeth, Pantera and Suicidal Tendancies....and Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden to Foo Fighters, Everclear, and Tool.

OUR INDIVIDUAL INFLUENCES SPAN A MUCH BROADER SPECTRUM, which gives RUST its unique presence and sound.

'Rust' formed because we got together looking for some time away from the drudges of our lives to escape and do what we love best. Soon it became much more than a hobby, and the ever increasing awareness of the market becoming more and more saturated with death metal and black metal music, we decided it was time to bring back some of the good old style rock/metal that we grew up on. That's what makes us stand out from alot of the upcoming original acts out here today.
